What in us still knows how to bend without breaking?
Today, my thoughts are with the trees.
The white pines. The cedars. The spruce. The fir.
All that living architecture, already taking the weight of ice in silence.
Environment Canada is warning of a difficult weather system now moving through parts of Ontario, Quebec, and New Brunswick, with freezing rain, ice pellets, snow, rain, and in some places, the kind of accumulation that can strain branches, damage trees, and leave people without electricity and vulnerable.
My prayer is simple. Join me.
May the living wood hold.
May the roots stay deep.
May only what is already dead or finished fall away.
May the rest remain green, supple, and strong.
And for us, there is a quiet instruction here too.
• Be careful
• Be neighbour available
• Check on someone who may need a hand
• Move slower than your plans prefer
• Let care outrank convenience
Some storms show us what is weak.
Some storms show us what is alive.
Haiku for the trees
Ice on pine boughs waits
let old weight fall back to earth
green life, hold your ground
