Even after 9 years of business ownership and being a dentist for 13 years, I still pinch myself every day at how grateful I am to be the owner of Yorkville Dental! I get to bring my beautiful pup Sauvie to work with me every day, I work with an incredible team of professionals who are so dedicated to what they do, I get to take care of the most wonderful patients who appreciate all the hard work that goes into creating their smiles and I couldn’t be happier 🥰
If you had told Shannon as a dental student back in 2009 what life would look like and showed her this AI caricature she would’ve cried tears of joy knowing all the hard work would one day pay off 📚💪🤓👩🏻‍🎓🐾

What to do with a lingual wire if you’re looking to enhance your smile 😊 Do you think you’d be consistent with wearing an essix retainer at night? Or do you worry about your teeth shifting if the wire were removed?

Here I discuss how we can use composite bonding to make the teeth appear straight if a patient is opting out of orthodontics 😁 both are great options but what would you rather: 1-2 years of Invisalign or 1 appointment of composite bonding? I’d love to know your thoughts! Comment below 🤗👇

How to make composite bonding not look to bulky! You can definitely achieve a natural result but it’s best to start with nice aligned teeth and a great colour to begin with 😉🙌

One of my favourite reactions to date! 🤩🙌 a little composite bonding to close two tiny gaps by treating only 4 teeth to enhance our wonderful patient’s smile 😁♥️

Having experienced both composite bonding and porcelain veneers firsthand, I reminisce on my personal dental journey and what I might have done differently 😊🙌😁

We treated our patient’s two front teeth about 6 years ago and the bonding has held up quite well! We were thinking to improve the integrity a little at this time and use updated products and techniques to get a better overall result. I absolutely love how they turned out and bonus was the patient had a little nap in the chair! 😁♥️💤
All this to say, bonding generally looks its best for the first 3-5 years but can last way longer if well maintained. It’s up to the patient and the dentist to see if something needs to be updated and with new products and developments in technique coming out all the time it’s nice to check in every couple of years to make sure we’re still giving it the best we can! 🙌😁

✨6 T E E T H ✨

This patient was unhappy with the appearance of his smile: he didn’t like the uneven edges, felt his canines were too pointy and that the two front teeth were disproportionate. He also wanted to improve the colour and make the smile appear more balanced while keeping a natural overall result.

In his consultation, I pointed out the unevenness in the gums but that didn’t trouble him, and I showed him the triangular shape of the teeth that could be improved by modifying the contour and adding some volume in between the teeth near the gum line and he liked the sound of that. I also suggested smoothing the lower teeth a little as well to create a final polished look; skipping it would create a big contrast between the upper and lower teeth so it’s always nice to create a cohesive look by taking everything into consideration. ✍️

The slight contrast in colour between the upper and lower was also mentioned but it wasn’t something that the patient felt would bother him.
So here we treated 6 teeth in just around 3 hours with composite bonding. No needles. No drilling. Just a thin layer of composite added to the upper teeth and contoured to a shape that balances the whole smile.😁

Porcelain veneers are always an option down the road but bonding is a great first step to try out a brand new look for several years with a very minimally invasive approach that keeps the teeth strong and healthy 💪🙌
