Women's Mental Health Talks

Women's Mental Health Talks WMHT provides social, emotional, and instrumental support to students mental and overall well being.

Women’s Mental Health Talks is a student-led support group that aims to provide women with the tools they need to maintain mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being throughout their lives in order to reach their fullest potential. This organization at York University will consist of bi-weekly open-discussions on topics such as: self-development, confidence, emotional independence/authenticity, r

elationships, sexuality, realizing self-worth, body image, manifesting success and reaching goals. These open-discussions provide an opportunity for members to give advice and share stories with other female members in the group in order to inspire strength and resiliency in each other. When women are able to freely express their thoughts and opinions in a safe and confidential space, it increases confidence and inner strength. Each week will also include a conversation about a woman in history who has overcome barriers, as well as an analysis of the strategies and mindset she used to achieve success. The goals of this organization are:

- To create CHANGE: in bringing awareness to the immense power inherent in every woman, it is my hope that through this group, she will be armed with the tools she needs to improve her mental and emotional well-being, and recognize that she has the power to change her life circumstances and relationships in all different ways. Through conversations with women in similar and differing situations – she will learn that she has the power to influence change in others & in the world.

- To INSPIRE: to inspire other women in the group through the sharing of advice, stories, and life experiences.

- To bring AWARENESS: To bring awareness to women’s mental health and to the circumstances and barriers that can lead to mental and emotional troubles among women. To develop STRATEGIES FOR:

- Building self-confidence
- Realizing self-worth
- Acting through respect/love for oneself
- Enhancing self-expression: learning how to use one’s voice to express thoughts and opinions without fear of being reprimanded.
- Attracting and maintaining healthy relationships
- Setting short-term and long-term goals and how to achieve them
- maintaining a positive body image

Balancing the complexities of two cultures can be a challenge. Biculturalism is not just about celebration; it's also about navigating the unique challenges it presents.

Join our peer-led support group on November 24, where we discuss our experiences with biculturalism and ways we can learn to balance these identities in a positive way. DM us or check our bio for a link to the meeting, hope to see you there!
