ℹ️Facial Nerve Palsy Therapy - why it matters & how therapy can help

The Facial Nerve is a small yet powerful structure that controls over 19 muscles on each side of the face, influencing how you blink, smile, speak, express yourself and more.
When it is injured, facial muscles and skin can be impacted, sometimes in a very noticeable fashion, and other times in ways that other people around you might not notice, but you feel every day.

Why is early intervention crucial?

🔺 Initial education helps in explaining symptoms like the inability to partially or fully close your eye or facial asymmetry
🔺 It provides the tools to reduce future complications that may arise from associated symptoms
🔺 Early intervention promotes better long-term outcomes
🔺 Therapy can reduce unwanted involuntary movements (synkinesis)
🔺 Therapy helps to restore balance and symmetry using various techniques

As a physiotherapist trained in Facial Nerve Palsy Therapy, I offer personalized support to help you navigate through your recovery.

💧💧💧 What is Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) and Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT), and who is it for?

✨ MLD is a gentle, hands-on therapy that helps stimulate the flow of lymph fluid, which is a key part of our immune and drainage systems.

When the lymphatic fluid flows slowly, for example due to surgery, injury, illness, or chronic conditions, it can cause swelling, discomfort and fatigue.

👥 Who can benefit from MLD?
✔️ People after surgeries, such as cosmetic, orthopedic, or cancer-related, or any other surgical procedure.
✔️ People who are diagnosed with lymphedema (accumulation of lymphatic fluid in tissues) or lipedema (a chronic condition that causes abnormal buildup of fat).
✔️ Individuals recovering from injury
✔️ People experiencing swelling due to decreased mobility or prolonged inactivity.

💡In addition to MLD, there is sometimes a need for Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT) as well. CDT aids in reducing and managing lymph volume efficiently.

This involves:
🔹Manual Lymph Drainage
🔹Compression bandaging to support volume reduction
🔹Skin Care and movement

Once swelling is reduced, a custom compression garment may be recommended to help maintain long-term results and prevent fluid buildup.

As a physiotherapist trained in MLD and CDT, I tailor each session to your unique needs and goals, providing guidance and working collaboratively with you throughout the process, providing guidance on available treatment options and next steps.
