Xylitol in dental products helps fight cavities by starving the harmful bacteria in your mouth! 🦷

When bacteria consume xylitol, they can't process it, which lowers the number of cavity-causing bacteria and neutralizes your saliva's pH. This helps protect your enamel from damage! ✨

Just a reminder: Xylitol is toxic for pets, so keep products safe from furry friends! 🐾

Did you know that cheese can actually help prevent cavities?

Cheese is rich in calcium and phosphate, helps neutralize acids, and boosts saliva... all of which protect your enamel πŸ™Œ

Best choices? Hard cheeses like cheddar, gouda, and Swiss are the most beneficial.

Avoid processed cheese products (like cheese spreads). They often contain additives and sugars that don’t offer the same benefits.

So go ahead, enjoy a small piece of real cheese after meals for a smile-friendly snack!

No matter how far behind you've fallen (days or months), it's never too late to start again and reap the benefits! πŸ†

Start small by flossing a couple of times a week, then gradually increase as it becomes part of your routine.

Soon, your mouth will feel off if you skip it! 🧽

Struggling with floss? Try a Waterpik or interdental brush instead.

Not sure which option works best for you? Ask your dental hygienist at your next visit!

Most people know that candies increase your risk for cavities, but did you may not realize that some of these sneaky snacks are loaded with sugar!

We get it. Feeding children can be tricky and parents/care givers need to be mindful that their kids are getting adequate calories and nutrients. Understanding how these foods affect teeth can help you make more informed decisions about what you and your family eat!

crackers: they get broken down into a sugar laden carbohydrate rich paste that gets stuck in the biting parts of molars.

flavoured milk: white milk contains more sugar than people realize, but is often fortified with vitamins and minerals making it ok sometimes. FYI flavoured cow, nut and soy milk can have more sugar in them than soda!

apple sauce: while many don't have added sugars, processed foods are worst for teeth than whole foods as they essentially bathe teeth in acid and don't need to be chewed as much.

sweetened yogurt: dairy naturally has sugar, but sweetened yogurts can really pack a punch.

fruit snacks: don't be fooled by the labels; most "fruit" snacks are actually candy. If it looks like a candy, it usually is. Dried varieties(while still high in sugar), often contain more fibre... but they're still super sticky.

Pro tip: limit these types of snacks as much as possible and drink water with and after meals and snacks!
