Toronto School of Traditional Chinese Medicine

Toronto School of Traditional Chinese Medicine Toronto School of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TSTCM) is one of the top Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture institutions in North America.

When it comes to excellence in education, TSTCM has a proven track-record. Founded in 1995 by Mary Xiumei Wu, one of Canada’s foremost experts on Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture, the school has spent the last 20 years refining its curriculum and training methods to ensure that graduates are prepared to meet the challenges of CTCMA certification in BC and Pan-Canadian examinations (starting in 2013) in Canada, and NCCAOM examinations in the United States. Since 2001 graduates of TSTCM have taken NCCAOM exams in the U.S and CTCMA exams in BC with high pass-rate. In Ontario, the TCM profession has been regulated since April 1, 2013 and College of Traditional Chinese Medicine of Practitioners and Acupuncturists of Ontario (CTCMPAO) is established under the Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991 and the Traditional Chinese Medicine Act, 2006. We are taking the necessary steps to ensure that our students will experience the same level of success with Pan-Canadian examinations and CTCMPAO registration that they have had in other jurisdictions. With our proven training methods, graduates have all the tools they need to build rewarding and successful careers practicing TCM. Our graduates have attained a reputation for excellence in the field of alternative health care and are highly sought-after by wellness and medical clinics. Many have gone on to open their own successful practices. TSTCM offers classes with flexible schedules and modularized programs, catering to the needs of students. Classes are offered during the daytime, evenings, and on weekends. Students can study one modality at a time in a modular fashion while working toward the completion of one of the comprehensive diploma programs. Our approach to in-class teaching and clinical training is innovative and highly effective. Classes are delivered within a supportive and inspiring environment, and encompass traditional as well as modern approaches to TCM education. The campus also includes an on-site teaching clinic to serve the local community, where upper-year students diagnose patients, formulate treatment plans, and deliver acupuncture, herbal medicine, and tuina treatments under the supervision of experienced TCM experts. We have assembled an expert faculty with many years of experience teaching and practicing Chinese Medicine in China and North America. Each and every one of our instructors is an outstanding individual who is carefully selected for his or her depth of knowledge and passion for teaching. Toronto School of Traditional Chinese Medicine is not only an educational institute providing formal training programs for acupuncture and TCM practitioners but also a professional traditional Chinese medical care center providing high quality TCM services by well respected TCM experts and our interns.

🧠✨ Could Acupuncture Help With Depression? New Research Says Yes! ✨

A recent 2025 study from Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine has revealed promising evidence that acupuncture may help relieve symptoms of depression—without the use of medication.

🐭 In this study, researchers employed a model of depression in rats. They treated them with electroacupuncture at two powerful acupoints: GV20 (located at the top of the head) and Yintang (between the eyebrows)—both well-known in Traditional Chinese Medicine for their calming effects on the mind and support for emotional balance.

💡 While more human studies are needed, this research adds to the growing evidence supporting acupuncture as a safe, natural, and effective option for managing depression—especially for those who don’t respond well to medication or prefer holistic care.

👩‍⚕️ If you or someone you know is struggling with depression, acupuncture might be worth exploring as part of a comprehensive wellness plan. Book our teaching clinic by calling us at 416-782-9682.

Before your first TCM clinic, here are a few important tips:
👅 Don’t brush your tongue that morning - Your tongue coating gives key diagnostic clues about your overall health.
☕️ Skip Coffee, tea or coloured drinks - they can stain your tongue and affect your pulse.
🥗Eat a light meal - Avoid arriving on an empty stomach or overly full, especially if you are having acupuncture.
📝 Bring a list of medications/supplements- this helps your practitioner understand your health picture fully.
