💦 👟 💬 💪🏽 🧁

To elaborate:

Water makes me feel good. It’s that simple. I feel refreshed and honestly, alive, when I am well hydrated. Plus, we’re told how often that we need to drink how much of it? There doesn’t need to be any more reason!

Exercise is the holy grail for me when it comes to self-care. What the exercise entails varies, but, it doesn’t ever span for less than 20 minutes - even if I’m sick.

Staying connected with friends, relatives, colleagues and other members of society is so important - especially being in private practice.

Challenging myself sorta goes hand in hand with the above. I might have to challenge myself TO consume 2 litres of water some days. I might have to challenge myself TO take my pups for a walk, because the weather outside is frightful. Other times, challenging myself is its own thing: I might try a new exercise class or push myself a little harder on a hike.

Rewarding myself can look like a lot of things but is as simple as having that ‘ahh’ moment when I finally get to sit on the couch at night.

Do any of these surprise you?

Uber cute AND good for mental health? 🙌🏽

Animals are capable of reducing our cortisol (aka our stress hormone). Their presence is known to increase serotonin, dopamine, and oxytocin; which work to combat anxiety, depression, and loneliness. Companionship and a sense of purpose can stem from having a pet. They also encourage physical activity and routine.

Psychotherapy (aka talk therapy) is - in a nutshell - a confidential and collaborative process that helps people understand their thoughts, feelings, and behaviours and ultimately, create change.

While venting is entirely welcome in (psycho)therapy sessions, the process as a whole is active and forward-driven; the main goals being positive change and improvements to one’s mental and emotional wellbeing.

The process can be challenging but should always be enriching and inviting. It should feel empowering, rewarding, and reviving all at the same time.

Not therapy - including psychotherapy - is the same.

It’s one of those things that if you know, you know. And it’s also one of those things that CAN be treated (managed), with the appropriate support and approach.

It’s also something to be cognizant and mindful of with regards to others. It’s true that you never know what someone may be going through.

And no. Acknowledging, accepting, and allowing does not have to mean you simply become a passive participant, left to continue feeling a prisoner to unwanted thoughts.

Change is possible. But it begins with the three As. (And before these, courage).

A Sunday well-spent brings a week of content! 🤎

An animal lover I am indeed. Majority of my clients and colleagues know (all-too-well 😆) about my 2 pups, but, surprise surprise - I am also into horses. Being around a horse allows for authenticity and connection, while simultaneously requiring mindfulness and intention. It’s a way to spend time that I find both humbling and honouring.

As I often say:
‘Old habits die hard.’

We humans are creatures of habit. Even when current/existing ways/habits aren’t serving us well, they feel “good” to us because they are familiar. Familiarity offers comfort. And the efforts put in to breaking these ways? Well, those most certainly feel UNcomfortable. At the start, at least.

Keep going. Break the cycle. You’re not alone.
