The embryo is starting to take shape, you can now see the head, tail, and somites (early building blocks for the spine and muscles). The heart has started beating, and tiny blood vessels are spreading through the yolk. The eye spot is becoming more visible too!

Day Two for Hatch A Duck!

For hatching to occur, duck eggs must be fertile. Fertile eggs come from ducks that have been housed with a drake (a male duck). The eggs sold in grocery stores are not fertile, so they will not develop into ducklings, even if placed in an incubator. In an incubator, the eggs are kept warm and gently turned,just as a mother duck would do so that heat is distributed evenly on all sides.
