NEW POST 🌸 - Perimenopause Depression

Depression during perimenopause is something I see in practice daily and something that I feel strongly about supporting.

There are many biological and physiological changes as menopause approaches and mood changes often present as a result.

This blog post gets in to some of the trends in research and points an optimistic light in the direction of research and with it treatment options!

HRT and antidepression medications are very important treatment options as is therapy but there are also other supportive pieces to look at.

New Study πŸ”Ž

Suprisingly the first study of it's kind to look at brain changes during pregnancy as they relate to postpartum depression!

Findings πŸ”Ž
● There are brain changes in women with depression during peripartum.
● Diffferent changes were seen with 1. Depression symptoms postpartum and 2. A challenging birth experience.
● These findings demonstrate that tracking neuroanatomical changes during the transition to motherhood can help identify vulnerabilities.
● Hopefully these findings will lead to more causative understanding of why these changes are present and how to support them better!

UofT Course, Your Health: Naturopathic Medicine, is a GO! πŸŽ‰ There's still time to register 🌱

This is a course that I've been teaching since 2008 and it's still as relevant as ever. Medicine and especially Functional Medicine has come a long way but the foundations are still the same.

Join us as we explore these foundations of health and discus what it means to be healthy. We'll take a close and evidence based look @

🌱 Digestive Health: functional aspects, microbiome, gut permeability, food sensitivities, optimal strategies.

🌱 Hormonal Health: Thyroid, reproductive and adrenal hormone balance, the stress response and cortisol.

🌱 Immune health: Inflammation, balance and optimization.

🌱 Detoxification: what, why, where, how...

🌱 Cardiovascular health: a functional understanding, cholesterol balance and arterial health.

Staring February 14th and running weekly for 8 weeks with Continuing Studies at UofT.

This is an introductory class with no prerequisites. Ideal for general interest, health practitioners, students interested in the field and anyone looking to understand and improve their health.

Hope to see you there!!
