Don't assume because someone appears strong on the outside that "everything's fine." Assume that people want to appear strong even when they're not. Compassion and listening with an open mind (even if you don't understand) are the key words in friendship, collegial relationships, marriages and all relationships. In today's hectic, oftentimes harsh world there's no room for harsh judgement.

Taking a small break in the day and choosing to focus on a happy memory that gives us a calm, peaceful feeling
can help reduce anxious and sad feelings. Feelings can change for the better when we consciously choose to focus on the positive.

Conquering fears takes courage and perseverance. It also increases self confidence and resilience. Treatment for anxiety works on breaking down fears into small parts and building confidence to conquer as you go. Everything is possible when you take baby steps.

We need anxiety in life to survive. But when we experience chronic, excessive anxiety we are often over estimating danger and under estimating our ability to cope. Therapy for anxiety consists of retraining our brain to realize that uncertainty which propels or underlies anxiety is best dealt with by focusing on our inner resilience and strength.

Having a mental health problem is nothing to be ashamed of. If you know someone who is suffering, reach out to them, if you are suffering, have the courage to reach out. It takes wisdom, patience and compassion to get through the tough times, but know that you are not alone. We are all in the journey of life together.

Anxiety always seeks certainty and comfort. In order to deal with it we need to accept that life has uncertainties and learn to embrace them.
