Just a little reminder 💛

Urinary incontinence is common, but it is not something you have to live with.

Leaking happens when your pelvic floor muscles aren’t functioning optimally, whether they are overactive, underactive, or out of sync with your core system.

The good news is that pelvic floor physiotherapy can help rehabilitate and re-educate your muscles, giving you control and confidence again.

Pelvic floor physiotherapy can help you manage any incontinence you may be experiencing.

Take note of when leaks happen, your hydration, and bowel habits. This information is valuable to share with your physiotherapist. With the right support, you can regain control and live without leaks.

As pelvic health physiotherapists, one of the most common misconceptions we hear about cesarean births is: “Since I didn’t have a vaginal delivery, I don’t need pelvic floor therapy!”

The truth is that every body deserves and requires postpartum support regardless of how you birthed your baby.

Your pelvic floor is part of your core system that is made up by your inner abdominals, back muscles, and diaphragm. Pregnancy alone places enormous demands on this system to support your growing baby, stretching your abdominal wall, raising your diaphragm, and working your back muscles hard for 9 (really 10!) months.

A cesarean section is a major abdominal surgery, one that significantly impacts the coordination and function of your core system. Once fully healed, your tissues benefit from stretching, massaging, and guided therapy to restore mobility and flexibility. Your core system and pelvic floor and surrounding tissues have still experienced changes that deserve attention.

Post-C-section pelvic floor and core therapy isn’t optional- it’s essential. Your body did incredible work, and supporting it now is how you regain strength, confidence, and full function.

Your pelvic floor doesn’t work in isolation, it responds to your Nervous system, lifestyle and behaviours.

Sometimes the things impacting your symptoms aren’t the ones you’d expect.

Here are three things that may be quietly influencing your pelvic health:

🌸 Stress - Your pelvic floor is directly connected to your fight-or-flight system. When stress becomes constant, those muscles respond by overworking, becoming tight, tired, and less functional which can contribute to symptoms like pain, urgency, and incontinence.

🌸 Sleep - Poor sleep affects everything from mood and concentration to healing and pain. And because stress and sleep are so closely tied, lack of restorative sleep can drive persistent pelvic pain and make daily symptoms feel heavier.

🌸 Support - The people around you matter. Supportive relationships can improve resilience and shape positive treatment outcomes, while negative or unsupportive environments can influence how your body interprets and holds pain.

Your symptoms might show up in your pelvis, but the story behind them is often bigger.

When we address you as a whole person, we take into account your biology, your stress, your sleep, your relationships and we’re able to truly achieve incredible results.

You don’t have to navigate this alone.

Reach out today and let’s support your pelvic health together.

“Why didn't anyone tell me??”

This question is something we hear a lot.

There is an overwhelming amount of information and misinformation (and sometimes nothing at all!) about pelvic health, perimenopause and perinatal care and it can be difficult to know what to do and how to go about doing it!

Here are 4 things you might not have known that Pelvic Physiotherapy can support you with!

1. Hip pain: Your inner hip muscles can ONLY be treated internally, with amazing success! Nagging ongoing hip pain? We got you!

2. Uncontrollably Passing Gas: It's absolutely normal to pass gas throughout the day. But, if you find yourself releasing gas at the most inopportune times without control, pelvic physio is your answer!

3. Bladder Leaking: Leaking while sneezing, laughing, jumping, or just not making it to the bathroom in time are common. A pelvic physio can help you stop leaking!

4. Urinary Frequency: Do you know where every bathroom is, everywhere? Do your trips to the bathroom constantly conflict with your life? Pelvic Physio can help!

At Vital, it is important for us to educate you about your anatomy and physiology and arm you with evidence-based information so that you know that what you may be experiencing is common, within our scope of practice and we support people like you everyday!

And even better news? It’s treatable!

If you’re experiencing any of the above things, please reach out to us, we’d love to help!

If you’re having UTI symptoms like urgency, a burning sensation, bladder pain, or feeling like you have to p*e constantly but your tests keep coming back negative, your pelvic floor muscles may be the real source of your symptoms.

Your pelvic floor muscles are a group of muscles that sit like a basket at the bottom of your pelvis and connect from your tailbone to your p***c bone and go through your vaginal canal, re**al canal, and your urethra. These muscles control your bladder and bowel function. If there are any issues or dysfunction with your pelvic floor muscles, this can cause issues around your urethra and bladder which can mimic UTI symptoms, when in reality you’re dealing with tight or overactive muscles.

At Vital, our pelvic floor physiotherapists will assess your muscles, address dysfunction, and help you understand how bladder and bowel habits may be contributing to your symptoms.

You don’t have to keep guessing.

If you’re ready to take charge of your pelvic health, book your appointment at Vital today.

If you’ve ever wondered what actually happens during your first pelvic health session, here’s what you can expect.

→ Your physiotherapist will begin by taking a comprehensive medical history and completing a detailed physical assessment. With your consent, this may include an internal pelvic examination to understand the current state of your pelvic floor muscles and pelvic girdle joints.

→ Your physiotherapist will do a movement assessment to pinpoint the root cause of your symptoms so your therapist can support you with precision and confidence.

→ All sessions are one-on-one and tailored to you. Your care may include a hybrid approach of virtual and hands-on treatment, with any internal or external techniques performed privately and respectfully.

→ After your assessment, your physiotherapist will create a personalized treatment plan and home exercise program.

→ Each follow-up session builds on the last, progressively moving you toward achieving your goals.

You deserve care that feels safe, informed, and deeply supportive.
