Pelvic health physiotherapy is designed to optimize the function of the muscles of the pelvic floor. Pelvic floor physiotherapists are trained to assess and treat conditions affecting the pelvic region, including incontinence.

The therapy involves exercises, techniques, and education tailored to each person’s unique condition, helping them regain strength, flexibility, and control in the pelvic area.

If you’re experiencing leaking or incontinence, it’s important to know that help is available. Pelvic health physiotherapy offers evidence-based solutions that can help you take control of your symptoms and improve your quality of life. Incontinence may feel like an overwhelming problem, but with the right care and support, it’s entirely manageable.

Take the first step by consulting a pelvic health physiotherapist. They’ll conduct a thorough assessment and create a personalized treatment plan designed to help you regain control and live without the burden of incontinence.

Remember, incontinence is common, but it’s not inevitable and you don’t have to face it alone!

If you’re one of the millions of people experiencing back pain, this is for you!

Low-back pain is tremendously prevalent.

And, unfortunately, back pain can seem difficult to treat, with many individuals experiencing less-than-complete resolution from their symptoms after working with healthcare providers.

After all, back pain can have many potential contributing factors to explore, including a host of lifestyle factors.

One great tool for addressing back pain is pelvic health physiotherapy.

If you’re already working with a healthcare professional and aren’t getting the resolution you hoped for, it might be worth checking in with a pelvic physiotherapist to explore what role your pelvic floor may be playing.

Your pelvic physio will work with you as a whole person, exploring how your symptoms fit into your lifestyle, uncovering your goals for treatment, and identifying how best to get you to your goals.

And if you haven’t yet considered seeing someone for that nagging, sometimes-twinges-when-you-move-the-wrong-way back of yours, here’s your invitation! We’d love to give you (and your back) the care you deserve, and get you feeling more confident in your body.

What your body goes through during pregnancy and recovery postpartum is nothing short of a miracle!

Healing from pregnancy and birth isn’t about fitting back into your skinny jeans. Physically, your uterus must return to its original size, your internal organs must return to their original position inside your body, and your scar tissue must heal. It can take around 12 weeks for all of this to happen.

Recovering and Rehabbing from pregnancy and childbirth, restoring your hormonal balance and rehabilitating and retraining our muscular system - can take 18 months to two years!

The FASTEST and most EFFECTIVE way to heal postpartum is to do it SLOWLY, allow your body the time it needs.

You are whole, perfect and complete exactly as you are. Sometimes your body just needs a little support to recover- and that's exactly what we do over here at Vital Physiotherapy and Wellness!

Prenatal massage can be extremely beneficial throughout the stages of pregnancy as it helps improve many common discomforts associated with the skeletal and circulatory changes brought on by hormone shifts.

Research has shown that prenatal massage can help reduce anxiety, decrease depression symptoms, relieve muscle and joint aches and pains. Evidence based research shows that labour outcomes can reduce back pain during labour and perhaps even improve newborn health.

Receiving massage therapy is a good way to make time for yourself and emotionally connect to your baby and your bodily changes. Massage therapy can help stabilize hormones, thus reducing cortisol, which can contribute to premature labour. The increased circulation can reduce swelling and allow more nutrients and oxygen to flow to your baby. It can help with feeling more rested even when sleep can be challenging.

Having massage therapy regularly during your pregnancy can make your prenatal journey more comfortable!

We are here for you! You can book your prenatal massage appointment with us today!

Low-back pain is tremendously prevalent. It’s one of the most common reasons that an individual seeks care from their primary healthcare provider (e.g. family doctor) or from a complementary or alternative healthcare provider (e.g. physiotherapist, chiropractor, acupuncturist, etc.)

One great tool for addressing back pain is pelvic health physiotherapy.

There is a growing body of research showing a link between low-back pain and pelvic floor function, which is giving us a different lens through which we view, and therefore treat, this common pain.

In a study of women with lumbopelvic pain (low-back, hip, buttock, or pelvic pain), 95.3% were found to have some form of pelvic floor dysfunction.

Here are 5 ways that a pelvic floor physiotherapist can help you before you deliver:

1) Less symptoms during pregnancy - A pelvic floor physiotherapist can help you manage these and many other symptoms so that you can actually enjoy your pregnancy by reducing or preventing these symptoms before they start.

2) Improved confidence about labour - Pelvic floor physiotherapists prepare you for the marathon that is childbirth!

3) Improved birth outcome - Evidence suggests that pelvic floor muscle training programs have been associated with shortening the time spent in stage 1 and 2 of labour and a better chance at lower perineal trauma, particularly if this is your first delivery.

4) Easier postpartum recovery - Building a connection to your deep core and pelvic floor before delivery can make it easier for you to re-train these muscles postpartum when your body will be changing rapidly.

5) Connect you with a network of postpartum resources - Often times, pelvic physios are well connected in the community to be able to direct you to various resources to navigate this postpartum period with trusted referral sources such as lactation consultants, postpartum doulas, sleep consultants, pediatric chiropractors/physio/dentist etc..
