Loving this cute outfit 😍

This little babe came in for an adjustment but was so sleepy he decided to nap through all of it!

Mom noticed a huge difference between first visit and second already. Sometimes things change this quickly and sometimes a bit more time and energy. The parents have been on the ball with the stretches at home to help little man be as comfortable in his body as possible.

Birth is intense on baby and mom too. If you feel like your little one is in discomfort, arching or pulling off when nursing or maybe you are noticing a flat spot or a constant tilt or head turning preference- these are good reasons to get them checked!

DM me if you have any questions about baby chiropractic!

Getting this little cutie checked after birth!

So much baby scrunch still going on but it's still a good time to get baby checked. If there are any issues it is easier to correct the sooner they get in- however it is never too late if you think there is something going on or if you just want a wellness check.

This little cutie knows the importance of having baby checked!

Did you know baby's spine will grow 2x it's size in the first 2 years- never again will kids grow this fast (although it may feel like it when you have to keep buying new shoes and pants!)

Infants are only born with 1 curve in their spine, whereas as adults, we have 4!
Babies start with the C-curve (or the new born scrunch), which will stay for a few months.
Next, they start to grow their neck curve as their neck and postural muscles get stronger.
The low back curve develos around 6-12mo as they start crawling and cruising.
The last 2 curves develop, and then they can support upright walking. These are the thoracic or mid back curve and the sacral kyphosis (swipe to the last image)

Now you know!

This little cutie is getting set for her adjustment!

The age between 9mo-2years of age can be hard for adjustments. Kiddos want to move, explore, and learn! Parents often think their little one doesn't like adjustments and this is very understandable as they wiggle and squirm away.

Between 9 and 24 months, your toddler is taking huge strides (literally and figuratively!) and becoming very independent. This independence you may notice especiallu as they learn to say words like 'No' and like my daughter 'me do it' 😅

Rest assured, their adjustments may look a little different then when they were babies and may be broken up by different activities (on the table, on the floor when playing, with a parent hugging them, etc.) but their physical development also leads to physical injuries (falls, bumps, and bruises) and adjustments can be so helpful to take that physical stress off their spine as they continue to grow!

The cutest little chiro assistant helping take good care of mama 💕

Family adjustments are so much fun and beneficial for everyone. Not only does the whole family feel better- you are teaching your littles the importance of taking care of yourself! Especially as moms, we tend to put ourselves on the back burner, but this can be an easy way to take some stress off your system.

So even if you don't have childcare or have a tag along, feel free to bring them in!

Do adjustments for babies sound scary?

Let me tell you (and show you⬆️) that adjustments are gentle enough that babies can fall asleep during their care.

I'll be honest - this doesn't always happen. Sometimes, babies are fussy, irritated, and cry. Some little ones don't like laying on their stomach, some don't like laying on their backs, and some don't like anything. I work with the baby and parents, and we figure out ways to make baby feel better during their adjustments. Sometimes we stand and rock, sometimes baby lays on mom or dad, or sometimes the parent holds the baby while they rock. Most of the time, adjustments get easier and easier. And maybe one day they too fall asleep during their adjustment ❤️

"When should I bring my new baby to get checked?"

This is a question I am often asked by pregnant moms in the office.

The answer is:

"It depends."

It depends on:
- How mom is doing/recovering/feeling?
- How is baby doing/recovering/feeling?
- Are there any concerns? (latching pain, issues, tension or other issues that may be noticed by yourselves, your lactation consultant or midwives)
- How was the birth?
- How was the prenatal period?

These are just some of the factors considered when recommending care. I have seen babies hours old, on their way home from the hospital or after a month or so. Babies can be checked at any point although the sooner the better because if there are issues we can implement interventions quicker. This way those patterns don't become as established in their movements (or lack thereof) and nervous systems.

Sometimes you just need a hug during your adjustments...

Did you know that your sinuses can benefit from having vibration applied to them? This is something you could try at home or as part of your adjustment.

In the second image you can see I am using an activator or commonly known in the clinic as a 'clicker' (which is a hand held chiropractic tool for precise, gentle adjustments) applied to my finger which is placed on the sinuses. Kids and adults love this technique especially when they can see and feel the difference after.

What a great way to end my week off- learning a new technique that I can start using tomorrow!

Lori taught numerous bodywork techniques for infants that address plageocephaly, torticollis, acid reflux, inability to form a good latch while breastfeeding, tongue, lip and buccal tie restrictions and a myriad of other pathologies.

I am looking forward to sharing these new skills and Cranial sacral Techniques with you!
