We love using stories in our work with children. Books can help kids feel seen, understood, and less alone in their experiences — while also giving them gentle ways to talk about feelings and challenges.

We’ve recently added some new books to our office library focused on autism, neurodiversity, and sensory sensitivities. We’re excited to share these with the children and families we support, and to continue building a space where differences are understood and celebrated.

Sometimes the right story can open the door to connection, confidence, and meaningful conversations. 📚💛

We’re so happy to share that our new website is now live! 🌿

This space was created with our community in mind — a place where families, children, teens, and adults can learn more about the support available and feel a little more comfortable taking that first step toward counselling.

Whether you’ve been part of our practice for a while or are just finding us now, we invite you to explore the new site and learn more about what we offer.

Thank you for being part of our community and for trusting us with your stories. 💚🤍

Crocodile Dentist 🐊🦷
More than just a game—this playful tool becomes a powerful way to build connection, practice turn-taking, explore impulse control, tolerate uncertainty, and gently explore anxiety around the “unknown.”

In play therapy, games like this create a safe, low-pressure space where kids can take risks, notice body cues, laugh, and learn—all while strengthening emotional regulation and social skills.

Play isn’t “just play.” It’s how children communicate, process, and heal. 🫶✨💛

Another favorite of mine: Sandtray therapy 🫶
An evidence-based, experiential approach that supports children, teens, and adults in expressing what’s hard to put into words (and yes—adults really do love this too).

Ever wonder why play therapists use doctor kits?
Because they help children feel in control, express fears, and make sense of big experiences—using the language they know best: play. 🩺🧸

It’s not just dolls. It’s not just playing with toys. It’s therapy. 🧸

With a trained play therapist, play becomes an evidence-based way for children to express emotions, build coping skills, and heal—without needing the right words.

Looks like play.
Feels like safety.
Creates change. 💛

🌈🌎It’s International Play Therapy Week! 🌎🌈

This week we celebrate the magic of play—because play is more than fun, it’s how children communicate, process big feelings, and make sense of their world. Play therapy gives children a safe, supportive space to express what they may not yet have words for, build resilience, and feel truly understood.

At Brooke Chesher Counselling & Psychotherapy, play is a powerful therapeutic language. Through toys, creativity, movement, and imagination, children show us exactly what they need—and healing happens in the most natural way.

✨ To celebrate, I’ll be posting every day this week sharing some of my favourite play therapy tools from our therapy space and how they support emotional growth, regulation, and connection. 🫶

Follow along, get curious, and celebrate the power of play with me. Because play isn’t “just play”… it’s therapy. 🧸💫

“Stuffing our feelings in” brought to life through play. 🧠💛
Using the Inside Out characters in session a beautifully created metaphor showing what it feels like when emotions get pushed down instead of expressed.

Children know how to express what’s happening inside… we just need to be there with them to listen, witness, and wonder alongside.
And yes — the toys help too 😉🧸✨

Play is a child’s language. 🧸
Time builds safety. ⏰
Parents make the difference. 🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒

In play therapy, children express what they can’t yet put into words. With time, trust grows. When parents are part of the process, healing extends beyond the playroom into everyday connection.🫶

Play, presence, and safe relationships create meaningful change 🌱

As we wind down to the last week of school, Fox wants to remind everyone that rest matters 🐟
Taking time to slow down, lay low, and cozy up with your pals is an important part of the Christmas holidays.

✨ Holiday scheduling updates:
• Brooke will be off from December 18-January 5, with the exception of a couple of appointments available on December 29 & 30th 🎄
• Taylor will be welcoming new clients in the New Year in the office 🥰🤍 .psychotherapist

Until then, we’re finishing off the week in full swing and wishing everyone a restful, gentle, and joy-filled holiday season 🤍🎄
