The Reason. Yes, we had an awesome ride, but EyeBike’s mandate has always been to raise awareness of ocular melanoma and raise funds for treatment and research. We are so pleased to announce that through your support we have doubled our initial goal and to date have raised $50,140! And, you can still donate by clicking this link:
https://supportthepmcf.ca/ui/DIY/p/eyebikens
All donations go directly to the Ocular Oncology unit at The Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in Toronto. Why Toronto? Ocular melanoma is a rare cancer and Maritime patients are sent to Toronto for specialized treatment. Research is key. We have been personally impacted by treatment that wasn’t available even a few years ago.
On behalf of the EyeBike crew, thank you for your support and for being a part of this ride! Who knows where the journey will take us next? Let’s Ride!

The Community Support. We were blown away by the support of our community! So many people showed their support in so many ways. From the Truro Farmers Market “bike-a-thon”, the Brigid concert at the Round Barn, the media support, the welcome/send off in and out of Truro, and the many co-riders along the way. Thank you for supporting EyeBike!

The Crew. It’s a cliché to say that this could not have been possible without an amazing support team, but it’s true. From planning events, to marketing and fundraising, to planning and preparing food, to being a support on the ride, this crew was amazing. Thank you for making it possible! Today is . “World Cancer Day, held every 4 February, is the global uniting initiative led by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC). By raising worldwide awareness, improving education and catalysing personal, collective and government action, we are all working together to reimagine a world where millions of preventable cancer deaths are saved and access to life-saving cancer treatment and care is equitable for all - no matter who you are or where you live.” This year’s theme is “Close The Care Gap.”

It seems that Christmas and New Year always bring a sense of gratitude and reflection. And although the fall has been quiet, it's been quite a year for EyeBike!

We are so grateful for the amazing support! Thank you! We are still waiting for a few pledges to come in, but to date we've raised $37,899 for the Ocular Oncology unit at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre! Amazing! Thank you to everyone who contributed!

This couldn't have been possible without the amazing EyeBike Crew! THANK YOU to Joe, Marion, Chris, Amber, Diana, Ann, Claire, Carol and Paula (SAG crew), Treasurer (and woodworker!) Steve, and Hannah and Ellie (social media).

And of course a huge thanks to my riding partner, Greg. It was such a pleasure being on this journey with you!

May you and yours find peace and joy this Christmas Season. And who knows where this journey will take us next!

Day #10
Final day. We started the day figuring the last 30km would be a victory lap. The ride took longer than expected because around every corner was another stunning view. Rugged beauty. And also, there were hills, steep hills. And we’ve also talked to lots of people. We’re reminded again that there are very nice people in this world. Just need to take the time to chat with them. And we gradually climbed and descended into Meat Cove. An amazing place. We had a great reception from the SAG Crew (support and gear), dipped our front tires into the ocean, and celebrated. Meat Cove! 810 km in total. This has been an amazing journey and we’ll post more in the near future. For now a HUGE thanks to everyone that has given and supported in so many ways to make this a huge success. THANK YOU!

And the journey doesn’t stop here. Stay tuned…

Throughout our trip we’ve had amazing food. Gotta keep fueled! 💪🏼 And we couldn’t have done it without Stewiacke Foodland, Milford Foodland, and Tatamagouche Foodland. They graciously donated the food for our entire ride! A huge THANK YOU to Darren Schriver and everyone at Foodland!

Day #9
For months now we have heard how challenging French and North Mountains are to climb. They did not disappoint. Yes, the scenery was once again stunning, but the story of the day was the mountains. The videos today are muted to protect the innocent. 👍🏻 A false sense of security after French, but North was that bad. But, now the mountains are behind us! And now we have our sights set on Meat Cove and ending our journey! Tomorrow Day #10!

When Paula Weaver got her diagnosis for a rare ocular cancer in 2018, it meant regular trips to the Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto for surgeries because her cancer is so rare. Her husband is thankful for the research happening there. He is cycling from the tip of Nova Scotia to the top of it....

Day #8
Today was all about the journey. Uncharacteristic for both of us. We took our time enjoying the stunning scenery, taking pictures (of course), and stopping to chat with people along the way. It’s amazing how many people connect with cancer in some way and it makes for some meaningful conversations. We’re also being recognized more, and met several people who said they are following the journey of the guys in the orange shirts. We stopped for lunch where we’re camping in Cheticamp and debated going farther, but decided to stop at 55km and enjoy the afternoon. Because as we’ve been reminded, we’re not 22 anymore. Tomorrow we conquer the mountains! 💪🏼🚴‍♂️🏔🚵‍♀️

Day #7
Woke up to a crisp, cool, cloudless day and headed out from the causeway at the Cape Breton Visitor Center. Back to just two riders after a few days of with a group. We had a great ride (roads, traffic, weather, scenery) until lunchtime at Mabou. Roads turned a bit rough and the hills started as well. But we made it through to Inverness and stopped for the day at about Dunvegan , 91 km, 661 total. And apprx 139 to go. Tomorrow we head to Cheticamp and the iconic Cape Breton scenery! Let’s Ride!
