Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS)

How does it work?
This portable unit aids in pain reduction by using low voltage electrical impulses through electrodes placed on the skin. The pulses target specific nerves to block pain signals from reaching the brain. This also stimulates endorphin release to reduce pain perception.

When is it used?
TENS units are used for a wide variety of conditions causing pain such as chronic pain, acute injuries, arthritis, and post surgery.

What should I expect?
A TENS unit causes a strong but comfortable buzzing or tingling sensation surrounding the affected area.

What’s better than one new physio? Two!

Spencer completed a Bachelor of Human Kinetics and Recreation (Kinesiology) at Memorial University of Newfoundland, followed by a Master of Science in Physiotherapy at Dalhousie University. Originally from Clarenville, Newfoundland and Labrador, Spencer has recently moved to Truro and is excited to begin practicing at Physio One.
Spencer has a strong interest in musculoskeletal and sport physiotherapy, with a particular focus on strength and conditioning. He takes an education- and exercise-based approach to care, helping individuals of all ages return to meaningful activities and build long-term independence. Spencer was drawn to Physio One for its supportive team culture and values the opportunity to work with a wide variety of cases within the Truro community. Outside of work, he enjoys weightlifting and staying active through sports such as hockey, volleyball, and golf.
