🧠MEN’S MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS MONTH🧠

Here are some facts about men’s mental health in Canada!

(Please remember that these are approximate, and MANY men do NOT report experiencing mental health’s struggles. The likelihood of these numbers being much larger is high).

What can you do to help?

🔵 Become better informed! Do some research, ask questions and challenge yourself to know more about men’s mental health, signs and symptoms and what you can do.

🔵 Ask what you can do/ what they need! Open a dialogue when checking in on the men in your life.

🔵 Check-in! Do your best to check on the men in your life. Even the happiest, funniest ones!

🔵 Point them in the direction of appropriate help.

🔵 Listen, and encourage them to get that help.

🔵 Take care of YOU. Remember that it is not your job to fix people. You can offer avenues of help, and be a support, but you can’t do that if you’re not well!

Take some time to fight the stigma around Men’s Mental Health this month! The likelihood that someone you love is struggling is high. Be kind.

It’s okay to ask for help and lean on safe people.

What is Intergenerational Trauma?

I get asked this question all of the time!

Intergenerational trauma is trauma that you may not have directly experienced, but has effected you indirectly. It is passed on through generations!

Why is it important to acknowledge Intergenerational Trauma?

Understanding and taking a look at how this form of trauma effects you can not only allow you to have a better understanding of yourself but also a better understand of how to stop the cycle. It allows you to find ways to identify the trauma, and begin your healing journey. 🍃

Remember that you are not alone in your trauma, and that even if it hasn’t happened to you directly, it is still valid 🖤

Here’s an infographic I made to hep explain deeper:

As the weather gets warmer, body image struggles can increase.

Remember that you are so much more than your body. Remember that your body allows you to do things you enjoy. Remember that you have a right to exist in your body, no matter what it looks like. 🌿

Here are some tips:

Sometimes when summer comes, we forget to take care of our basic needs because we’re so excited for the sun. Sometimes we even neglect our mental health because we feel like the sun has cured us!

This makes sense. The sun makes us feel better ☀️

HOWEVER, remember that while the sun is great, we still need to take care of our mental health.

By taking care of your mental health, you can prevent a come down when the sun goes away. You can prevent heavier winter blues, and you can enhance your summer to be that much better.

Here are some tips to take care of YOU this summer:

Take your meds, drink your water, and have the best summer 💧☀️💊

Starting therapy (or starting with a new therapist), can be anxiety provoking. Don’t worry! First sessions are always relaxed and just a chance to get to know eachother and set up a plan.

If you’re not so sure, you can always book a free 15 minute consultation to meet and see if we’re a good fit 💻

Sending love to all the people in a ‘mom’ role this weekend!

Not only to the birth mom’s but to the aunties, kijus, step-moms, foster moms, and dad’s pulling double duty.

Also sending love out to the mom’s struggling with miscarriage, postpartum, and struggles as a whole. You are valid, and so are your struggles.

Being a mom can be really lonely, and sometimes Mother’s Day can amplify that! Make sure to check in on your mom friends this weekend 🌿

You matter. You’re appreciated. You’re seen. You’re loved. 🫶🏽

As the nicer weather comes, remember to go connect to the land and get outdoors 🌿

Want your session to be outside? Just ask! The office setting isn’t for everyone, and I love to be out too.

Even if we’re virtual, I’ll sit outside while you do too!

Not near the office but still in Nova Scotia? Just ask, and I’ll schedule you for a time that I’m available to travel to you so we can connect in person and get outside!

Get outside this weekend, and take some time for you ☀️

May is Mental Health Awareness Month! 🧠

Mental Health matters every month of the year but using this month to spread awareness can help reach people who still feel alone in their struggles. Talking about it can help fight the stigma around needing help!

Take this month to talk about it, check in on your friends and family, and check in with yourself, too. Remember it’s okay to take a break ☕️

Prioritize Mental Wellness 🌿

When you’re low, dealing with stress and just struggling with life, it’s hard to have energy.

Sometimes it’s hard to do basic things like getting out of bed, brushing your hair, showering. It’s hard to exist with a limited amount of energy.

People often celebrate the “big” things in life: graduations, kids, engagements, getting a new house. But it’s also important to step away from that societal pressure and celebrate your “small” wins. Remember that you are doing the best you can, and that is enough. Remember that it’s okay to be exactly where you are in life.

It’s easy for people who don’t experience it to say things like “you’re lazy” or look down on you for “not doing enough”, but know that they aren’t coming from a place of experience and that’s okay. You are enough. You’re not lazy. You’re not a bad parent or a bad friend or a bad partner for not having energy. You’re just human, and humans struggle sometimes.

You survived another day and that is something to be proud of.
