Preston Houle, 29 from Portage la Prairie, was at the beach with his fiancée and their three children on July 18, 2025 when they heard a woman screaming for help.

A 2 year old boy had been playing in the water with other children when he did not resurface. He was pulled from the water not breathing.

Preston Houle ran over to the mother holding her unconscious child. Houle put the child on the ground and began giving him chest compressions to try and revive him. Houle's fiancée called 911 after finding service. The toddler coughed up some water, the paramedics came, treated the boy and took him to hospital in stable condition.

The child is expected to make a complete recovery.

Houle said he had never used his CPR training before. He initially took first aid training at 18, and kept his certification up to date when he had children.

Preston Houle, you are a hero. Your actions saved a life and much heartbreak.

⏳️Early access to cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) AND defibrillation (1 to 3 minutes after cardiac arrest) is vital. These actions may increase the chance of survival by 75% or more.
