Happy Holidays to everyone! 🎄☃️🦌❄

Ice is good for short-term pain relief. The cold temperature will numb out the area so that you will feel less pain. Ice should only be applied for a maximum of 10 minutes at a time to avoid tissue damage.

Ice may be a good alternative to pain-killers because it has less side effects. People will poor sensation to temperature should probably avoid using ice to prevent damaging the tissues by accident.

Strength and Endurance. Both are important to work on for different muscle groups.

🏃‍♂️ Power generators. "Sprinters" These include the Gluts, Quads, Biceps, Pecs. We need these muscles to produce lots of force when we move, but they don't last long. To train these muscles we typically want lower number or repetitions ans higher resistence. This is Strength Training.

🚶‍♀️Stabilizers. "Marathoners" These include the core, rotator cuff, back muscles. We need these muscles to hold our body in place for long periods of time, while the Power Generators move our body. These muscles help us maintain our posture when we stand or sit. To train these muscles, we typically peform high number of repetitions at a lower resistence. This is Endurance Training.

👨‍⚕️Perform Strength Training for "Sprinters" and Endurance Training for "Marathoners".

Happy Falls Prevention Month!🚶‍♂️

🚶‍♀️Walking on uneven surfaces during your walks can help challenge your balance.

🏃‍♂️Challenging your balance to the point where is it difficult, but you don't fall over, is what will help to improve your balance.

🏃‍♀️As we age, our sensory systems get less sensitive, this is natural, and cannot be changed. However, we can practice more balance exercises in our daily lives so that ww can atleast slow down the rate of decline in our balance.

🕺Next time you go for a walk, take the uneven path or the grass instead of the sidewalk and challenge your balance to get better!

After an injury, you may have pain.

Pushing through some pain is going to be part of the process.

As you overcome your pain and return to your usual activities, you will recover and reach your destination.

It takes about 4-6 weeks to repair your tissues after an injury even if you did nothing at all. You just have to make sure that you gradually perform more activities week-by-week, so that you retrun to your full activities around 6 weeks later.

If you are struggling and are unsure what is safe to do and what to avoid, get assessed by your health care professional.
