Feeling a little saucy? Perhaps even a little spicy? Then you need to check out Saucy Burger Canada!

Located on the ever bumpin' 17th Avenue, this little burger joint offers lots of gluten free options and will leave you feeling satisfied.

The gluten free life is kind of a bummer sometimes but with Saucy Burger, you can enjoy some of the things with your mouth that we can usually only eat with our eyes. Take, for instance, this amazing GLUTEN FREE Spicy Crispy Chicken Burger. A gluten free crispy chicken burger! So good, it's worth saying twice! It was, in fact, crispy. The sauce had just enough heat to wake up your tastebuds. I don't normally like sweet pickles but they were a perfect accompaniment to the other flavours in this burger.

Since I needed a bit more sauciness in my life, the Mr. and I shared some Lattice Fries with Gluten Free Farmers Cheese Sauce on top. The sauce was SO GOOD. It was nice and thick and actually tasted like real cheese, not the fake cheese sauce offered at other restaurants. Not feeling cheesy? They have a few other delicious toppings to suit your fancy.

All in all, Saucy Burger exceeded my expectations and has now been added to my list of favourite burger joints in Calgary.

Years ago, I used to frequent a Vietnamese restaurant in Pacific Place Mall. They had an AMAZING peanut satay phở. It was savoury, peanutty, garlicky and delicious. It was so good, I craved it at least a couple of times a week. But one day, they changed ownership and my beloved soup was no more. I tried the peanut satay at a number of other restaurants but nothing compared.

UNTIL NOW! Enter Pho City YYC located in China Town!

After seeing that they offer gluten free options, we decided to give it a try. They have a ton of options for us gluten freebies including bánh mì and spring rolls! So of course we had to start with both! We got the spring rolls and a satay beef bánh mì. They were fresh, tasted great and satisfied our hanger. Up next was the peanut satay phở. I was prepared for it to be "just meh" but lo and behold, this soup tasted like my same favourite from all those years ago! I'm pretty sure I squealed with delight in the middle of the restaurant. The broth was rich with all of the same flavours I had missed. I'm now back to craving it fairly often and thankfully, I don't have to drive as far to get it.

If you're looking for some great Vietnamese cuisine, make sure you check our Pho City soon. You won't be disappointed!.

We recently had a little date night dinner at Ryuko Japanese Kitchen + Bar after hearing recommendations about their great sushi. Located in Canyon Meadows, it was a bit of a trek for us NW kids, but it was worth the drive. They bring in fresh fish from places like Japan and despite making a long trip across the ocean, the fish is some of the freshest I’ve ever tasted. But if you choose to dine here, I suggest making a reservation – this place gets busy! Thankfully, we were fortunate enough that a table happened to open up when we got there.

We started off with some fun beverages. The mister ordered an Irish Mule, and I decided on the Yuzu Chu-Bai – complete with a citrus smoke bubble! What?! This cute little drink is also available in a mocktail option. Our server noticed me taking photos and made sure to come by and give me extra bubbles “for the gram”.

The food menu is easy for us Gluten Freebies to navigate with their helpful little symbols. A solid GF for an already gluten free option and a lighter GF for items that can be modified. We ordered a couple of rolls to start, a Spicy Salmon and a Chopped Scallop. Both were amazing, the fish was soft and almost melted in your mouth.

For our main, we ordered the seasonal 15-piece Sashimi set to share. This is the chef’s special selection which is based on what is available at that time. We were able to try sashimi we had never had or even heard of before. There wasn’t a single one we didn’t like.

Overall, a great experience. The ambiance is great and laid back, the staff a friendly and the food is obviously the highlight. Definitely worth the experience but if you choose to venture over here, make sure you bring your dollars, it’s a bit on the pricier side but worth it for some of the best sushi you’ll ever eat.

There's a new cafe in town! Very recently, opened up in my sweet little community - North Haven! The building has been under construction for a while now and we've been anxious to see what was going to be here. We were thrilled to see it had opened while we were away in the Philippines. I stopped in today to scope them out and came away with some gluten free treats!

I ordered one of each of their cookie offerings for the day - strawberry shortcake and raspberry lemon. Both were soft and delicious and went with my London Fog perfectly. They also offer GF sausages and at times, have a GF soup of the day.

Lan, the owner, had a vision to create an inclusive cafe that fostered that wonderful feeling of community. May I just say, she rocked it! Featured around the space is art for sale from local artists. The openness of the space ensures that anyone, with any ability, has easy access, and the seating allows for a home away from home - the perfect coffee date.

If you're ever in my neck of the woods, want to support local, and want something to safisfy your palate, please make sure to stop in!

We spent a month in the Philippines, frolicking on beaches, shopping our money away and eating, eating, eating. This beautiful country loves their fried foods, they love their noodles, they love their sauces. Let me just say, finding GF food in the Philippines is challenging! But it's not impossible. This country also loves rice and it's one of the main components to almost every meal. That paired with meats, seafood, hot soups, and the freshest fruits and vegetables, I had options. We were also fortunate enough to be staying somewhere where we could cook our own meals also so I had the the ability to cook GF safe meals. Eating safely while traveling can be tough for us gluten freebies but there are still lots of options out there. Sticking with what you know, asking lots of questions about what you don't, and possibly cooking for yourself when able, can ensure you don't go hungry. It make take a little more effort on your part but worth it after finding something delicious!

Up until the last 5 or so years, there weren't really a ton of Korean restaurants in our city. We've since exploded with so many great ones. The unfortunate part about that for us gluten freebies is most Korean sauces have the big, bad gluten in them. BUT we have options at made with love by Calgary's very own Chef !

I've tried a few of their menu offerings and I've enjoyed all of them. The menu items lack in gluten but you'd never know because they are all packed full of flavour.

Over multiple visits, I tried the Bibimbap Rice Bowl, the Japchae Bap and a cute mini version of the KFC Chicken Sandwich but in a lettuce wrap instead of a bun (the mini version was only available during an appreciation event but you're going to want the full size anyway). All were a flavour punch in the mouth, and I mean that in a good way. In each of the bowls, you get a little bit of everything which makes it that much more satisfying. And a fried chicken sandwich?! Count me in twice! While not a dedicated facility, the staff will ensure your food comes out hot, fresh and sans gluten.

location is great for a quick bite but if you're looking to class it up a bit more, head over to Chef Roy's full size restaurant in Mission.

You know those days where you just want a nice, comforting bowl of soup? For me, that could be everyday but if you’re looking for something easy and delicious, Van Son Vietnamese Cuisine 16th AVE is the place to be. Vietnamese cuisine with a TON of gluten free options.

For most visits, I like to start off with an order of their GLUTEN FREE SPRING ROLLS! Yes, you read that correctly! Wrapped in rice paper, these pork spring rolls are fried and served piping hot. They have a really nice crunch but also a good chew to them. Then for my soup, I really enjoy the Chicken Noodle Soup (Phở Gà) with added steamed veggies to make it more filling. But let’s be honest, I always take leftovers home regardless. To add a bunch of extra flavour to the spring roll dipping sauce as well my soup, I like to order a side of their gluten free satay sauce as well.

As with most restaurants, this is not a dedicated GF facility, but they really do try their darndest to make sure us gluten freebies have a delicious, safe meal. If you’re ever in the area, and even if you’re not, Van Son on 16th Avenue is worth a visit.

More pizza?! You bet your sweet, gluten free butt!

If you’re looking for a delicious, hearty, filling gluten free pizza, you absolutely need to check out ! They have a beautiful, thick crust made in house. And forget those pizza joints that only offer GF pizzas in teeny tiny sizes that leave you longing for more. At Spiros, you get an entire 12 inches of cheesy, doughy goodness all at once!

This time, I ordered one of my favourite flavour combos – a classic pepperoni, bacon and mushroom. But, if you’re looking for something other than pizza, they also offer GF pasta and several other delicious Greek dishes that can be tailored to accommodate. Their extensive menu has so many choices, you’re bound to leave satisfied. While not a dedicated gluten free facility, they do take extra care in the preparation of GF orders. Go check them out, your tummy will thank you!

Oh, we fancy, huh? In honour of our late friends' birthday, we celebrated him at Hy's Steakhouse & Cocktail Bar - a place we had spent his last two birthdays with him.

Hy's has a reputation around this city. A good one at that. If you're looking for a great steak, they've got you. This well known restaurant has been around since 1955 so they must be doing something right! If you're not feeling steak, they offer other delicious options too!

For this meal, we started out with fresh oysters (surprise, surprise) which we scarfed down before I remembered to take a photo. For our mains, we both got the 10oz New York Strip and opted for the baked potato with all the fixins. We added a side of the Charred Lemon Parmesan Asparagus and a side of the Sauteed Cremini Mushrooms. The sides are very generous portions so I recommend sharing! We finished off with a Creme Brulee (photo missing because it was in my belly).

Our meal was delicious, the steak was cooked perfectly and the sides were a perfect accompaniment. Hy's has a great atmosphere, the service is wonderful and they are very attentive when accommodating allergies.

Keep Hy's in mind when you're looking for a nice night out with wonderful food.

You know how sometimes you're out and about and suddenly realize you could use a quick snack to keep your momentum going? Well, New York Fries has you covered!

While not a dedicated GF establishment, the only things on the menu not safe for our consumption are the hot dog buns and the malt vinegar! All of their other sauces, condiments and even the hot dogs themselves are gluten free.

On some of mine and the Mr.'s trips to the mall, we have stoped by NYF for a Bacon Double Cheese Poutine. Delicious cheese curds smothered in steaming cheese sauce, sprinkled with crumbled bacon and fresh green onions. So much flavour in one tiny box. And it doesn't stop there, there are a number of other options to suit your fancy. Want to be a regular ol' fry guy? That's an option too!

I realize it may not be the most healthy option out there but sometimes you just have to treat yo'self!

It's getting colder here in Calgary. But it's perfect soup weather! I recently stopped in at for some GF Ramen! Just sub the regular noodles for GF noodles and you've got yourself a delicious bowl.

I went with the Kamikaze Ramen which has a little bit of meat, a little bit of veggies and a whole lot of flavour.

They also offer poke bowls if you're not in a soupy mood and a number of other snacks but make sure you ask which are safe for us gluten freebies as some of them aren't.

Between this location at and their other one at The Mercantile at Avenida Food Hall, you can find a decent bowl of Ramen not too far away.
