🌞 Li Xia (立夏) is the 7th solar term in the traditional Chinese calendar, which marks the beginning of summer and the end of spring. It's a season of growth, warmth, and abundance but also a season of potential heat-related disorders, such as heatstroke, irritability, insomnia, and digestive problems. Therefore, adapting our lifestyle and diet to the changing environment is important.

Here are some tips to stay healthy and balanced during Li Xia:

🌿 Eat light and cooling foods like vegetables, fruits, herbs, and grains, and avoid greasy, spicy, and heavy foods.

🍵 Drink plenty of water, tea, and soups to stay hydrated and nourished.

🏊‍♀️ Engage in moderate exercises, such as swimming, hiking, and yoga, to strengthen the body and relieve stress.

😴 Get enough rest and sleep, and avoid staying up late or overworking.

🌞 Enjoy the sunshine and nature, but avoid prolonged exposure to the hot sun and high temperature.

🙏 Practice mindfulness, meditation, or other stress-reducing techniques to calm the mind and cultivate inner peace.

By following these simple guidelines, we can make the most of Li Xia and enjoy a healthy and joyful summer. Happy Li Xia to all! 🌞🌿🍉🏊‍♀️😴🙏 #立夏

Have you heard of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)? 🧐 It's a systemic medicine that has been used for thousands of years in China, and it's also gaining popularity in the Western world. 💫

TCM is based on the concept of Qi (pronounced "chee"), the life force that flows through the body. The goal of TCM is to balance the flow of qi and promote health and healing. 🙌

Unlike Western medicine, which often focuses on treating specific symptoms or diseases, TCM takes a holistic approach to health, considering the whole person - body, mind, and spirit. 🌿

Have you tried TCM before? Let us know in the comments! And stay tuned for more posts about TCM and how it can help you achieve optimal health and wellness. 🌟

In Chinese medicine, a miscarriage is often seen as a result of a disturbance in the flow of Qi (energy) and blood. While there can be a variety of causes for a miscarriage, some early signs that may be indicative of an impending miscarriage according to Chinese medicine are:

1. Severe Lower Back Pain: Severe back pain to a point that you can't straighten your back or can't support your body anymore is a sign of Kidney deficiency. The kidneys are believed to govern reproduction and fertility. A person's Kidney Qi (energy) needs to be strong in order to conceive and carry a healthy pregnancy. Miscarriage may occur when the kidneys can no longer support the pregnancy.

2. Vaginal bleeding: Any amount of vaginal bleeding during pregnancy is considered a warning sign in Chinese medicine. Bleeding can be a sign of a threatened miscarriage or a more serious condition, such as a placental abruption.

3. Abdominal pain and cramping: Abdominal pain and cramping can be a sign of an impending miscarriage. The pain may be mild or severe, and it may come and go or be constant.

It's important to note that these signs are not definitive indicators of a miscarriage, and may also be present in healthy pregnancies. If you experience any of these symptoms during your pregnancy, it's important to consult with your healthcare provider as soon as possible for proper evaluation and management.

Acupuncture can be a relaxing treatment due to its ability to regulate the flow of Qi in the body when specific points are stimulated, which leads to the activation of the parasympathetic nerves. By inserting acupuncture needles at strategic points on the body, acupuncturists aim to restore balance and improve overall well-being. Acupuncture therapy has been shown to release endorphins, which are mood-boosting and pain-suppressing opioid neuropeptides, leading to pain relief and muscle relaxation in the area related to the pain. Overall, acupuncture can be an effective and soothing treatment for stress.

Acupuncture involves the insertion of very thin needles into specific points on the body. The sensation experienced during acupuncture can vary depending on the individual and the location of the needle insertion.

Some people report feeling a slight tingling sensation or a dull ache when the needle is inserted, while others may feel no discomfort at all. It is normal to feel a sensation of pressure or warmth around the needle insertion site.

Acupuncture is generally considered to be a safe and relatively painless procedure. However, if you are sensitive to needles or have a low pain tolerance, you may experience some discomfort during the treatment. It is important to communicate with your acupuncturist during the session if you experience any discomfort, so they can adjust the treatment as needed.

Happy Spring Equinox! As we transition from winter to spring, it's important to adjust our behaviours and habits to align with Traditional Chinese Medicine's (TCM) principles.

According to TCM, the Spring Equinox is a time of rebirth and renewal, where the energy of the universe begins to move upwards and outwards. To harmonize with this energy, here are a few tips to keep in mind:

1. Go to bed early and Wake up early: Sleeping too much or staying in bed too long will prevent your energy from being circulated properly, leading to more fatigue or even headache.

2. Eat fresh, seasonal foods: Spring is a time of growth and renewal, and eating fresh, seasonal foods can help support our bodies as they adjust to the changing season. Focus on green and/or sour foods, such as leafy greens, asparagus, and citrus fruits.
Peppermint and floral tea can also help to support and nourish the Liver's energy.

3. Get outside and move your body: Spring is a great time to start moving your body after the winter being slow and stagnant. Take a walk outside, do some gentle stretching, or try a new form of exercises like tai chi or qigong.

By following these tips and adjusting your behaviour to align with the principles of TCM, you can help support your body's natural rhythms and prepare yourself for a healthy, vibrant spring season.

Season VS Solar Term

A season refers to one of the four major divisions of the year: winter, spring, summer, and autumn. Seasons are determined by the position of the Earth in its orbit around the Sun and the tilt of its axis. In the Northern Hemisphere, for example, winter occurs when the Earth is farthest from the Sun and the days are shorter, while summer occurs when the Earth is closest to the Sun and the days are longer.

On the other hand, solar terms are a traditional system used in East Asia to mark the changing seasons based on astronomical observations. There are 24 solar terms in a year, with each term marking a specific astronomical event such as the beginning of a particular phase of the Moon, or the position of the Sun in relation to the Earth. The solar terms are used to guide agricultural activities, such as planting and harvesting, as well as cultural events.

How does it affect our body according to Chinese Medicine

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) views solar terms as an important aspect of health and wellness. In TCM, the 24 solar terms are believed to reflect the changes in natural energy and the environment, and can affect the human body's balance and health. Each solar term is associated with specific environmental and lifestyle changes that are considered to have an impact on the body's internal organs and energy systems.

According to TCM theory, the human body is connected to the natural world, and changes in the environment can affect the body's health. For example, during the solar term of "Grain Rain" (in late April to early May), the weather is usually warm and humid, and there is a higher likelihood of rain. This can lead to an increased risk of dampness and phlegm in the body, which can cause respiratory and digestive issues.

TCM practitioners use solar terms to guide health practices and treatments, such as dietary recommendations, acupuncture, and herbal remedies. For example, during the solar term of "Major Heat" (in late July to early August), TCM practitioners may recommend cooling foods and herbs to help the body cope with the heat and prevent conditions such as heatstroke.

In summary, TCM views solar terms as an important aspect of health and wellness, and uses them to guide health practices and treatments. By understanding the natural changes in the environment and their impact on the body, TCM practitioners can help patients maintain balance and promote optimal health.

These are 3 things you can start doing right away to help reduce bloating:

Minimize eating foods that can generate more gas
Carbonated beverages and beer
Starchy foods like potato, yam, and bread
Bean products such as tofu, black beans, soy beans
Dairy, which includes lactose. If people have lactose intolerance, consuming dairy is likely to cause bloating, gas, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea.

Manage your stress
When you're stressed, your sympathetic nervous system gets activated and goes into a fight or flight mode. This reaction causes more blood to go into your muscles and brain so that you'll be ready for action. However, that takes away the blood and energy we want to help us digest food which lead to a series of digestive problems.
There are many techniques out there that can be helpful for stress management. Exercise, meditation, hanging out with friends, yoga, consulting with a therapist or even acupuncture. Unfortunately we can only recommend because everyone’s preference is very different. One may find meditation helps but you don't. So go out there and find the best that suits you.

Abdominal bloating — an uncomfortable, full feeling in the belly area — can be alarming, particularly when painful. The abdomen can look larger than usual or be shaped abnormally. Persons may also have piercing abdominal pain. Yet, most times, the cause may just be indigestion or gas building up in the stomach and gut.

I will show you in the next post how I helped my client to eliminate bloating and strengthen their digestive system!

3 Ways of Dealing with Spring Lethargy

Sleep Routine:
In spring, our sleep time should be reduced accordingly. Waking up early, by following the sunrise, will naturally help the Yang Qi (Energy) in the body to rise.
Sleeping too much or staying in bed too long will prevent Yang Qi from being circulated properly which can lead to more fatigue or even headache.
If it takes sometime to leave the bed after waking up, try to do light stretches to help your body wake up faster. Not only will this movement make you more energetic, it will also help with lighting your spirit and moods.

Cardio exercise:
Cardio can increase the speed of blood circulation and bring more oxygenated blood into our brain. When the blood circulation increased, it also helps the liver with the Qi (energy) movement.
Cardio exercise that induce sweating is a great way to get rid of the excessive dampness that accumulates in our body. Notice how it helps with all of the 3 reasons that cause spring fatigue from our last posts? Start doing it today!

Diet:
Avoid eating sweets and dairy products because they can weaken our digestive system. These foods lead to more dampness build-up and further causes heaviness and brain fog.
Foods that can drain dampness can be very helpful in this situation, like Chinese barley, and lotus seed. Onion, garlic and peppermint are also great because they are pungent and are able to move the energy to prevent stagnation in our system.

These tips helped me feeling driven and enthusiastic every morning!
