😴 One bad night can significantly impact your body’s ability to manage blood sugar levels.

Sleep restriction—even mild reductions of just one hour per night—can have profound negative effects on metabolic health, including increased insulin resistance, elevated glucose levels, and disrupted hunger hormones.

😮 Even more extreme sleep debt, like getting four fewer hours per night over several days or more, can lead to a 40% slower glucose clearance rate and impair glucose effectiveness by 30%, mirroring early diabetes.

Chronic sleep loss also raises HbA1c levels, leading to the formation of harmful advanced glycation end-products (AGEs) which stiffen blood vessels and contribute to cardiovascular diseases and hypertension

Compared to adequate sleepers who got 8 hours or more per night, inadequate sleepers had larger glucose excursions and more variable daily glucose levels, indicating poorer blood glucose control.

‼️Glucose variability is higher in people with a late bedtime

Going to bed late also predicted worse glycemic outcomes—participants with a bedtime after midnight had greater variability in their glucose levels than those who reported an earlier bed time.

While inadequate sleep and a late bedtime were independently associated with poor glycemic control, their combined effects were even more harmful.

When it comes to sleep, optimizing timing andduration is important—having one without the other could cause large and highly variable glucose fluctuations, which puts you at risk for cardiometabolic diseases.

BOTTOM LINE

Does this mean that staying out too late or getting a few less hours of sleep on the weekend will lead to diabetes?

A few nights of poor sleep cannot undo the benefits of a consistent and sufficient sleep schedule.

What’s novel about this study is that it measured participants’ chronic sleep habits, showing the deleterious effects of years and years of insufficient sleep and late bed times rather than the effects of a few days.

🛏️ Diabetes doesn’t develop overnight, and if you currently have poor sleep habits, it’s not too late to make a change.

Did you know?

🥛 Adding dairy milk or creamer may undercut some coffee’s benefits.

😬The milk protein casein binds to chlorogenic acid and thereby may block its absorption in the digestive tract.

📚 Based on human urine studies , drinking coffee with milk cuts bioavailability of chlorogenic acid, dropping it from 68% (in black coffee) down to 40%.

🫐Milk protein can also undercut all the benefits from tea, berries, and chocolate!

😉So maybe we should save the room for milk for a later moment!

Mieux dormir.
Apaiser son système nerveux.
Bien nourrir son microbiote.

Late-Night Eating and Your Circadian Rhythm!

💁🏼‍♂️An occasional late-night meal isn’t going to harm your health.

‼️But if you notice it becoming a habit, it can disrupt your circadian rhythm.

⏰ The circadian rhythm is your body’s internal clock. It’s influenced by external cues, like light exposure and meal timing.

📊Eating late at night, when your body expects to be in a fasted state, can affect hormone release. Specifically, late eating can delay the onset of melatonin secretion, preventing you from feeling tired.

What you eat before bed also matters. Eating a carbohydrate-rich meal can cause a blood sugar crash in the middle of the night after a late-night meal causing cortisol levels to rise, and frequent wake-ups.

Heavy, high-calorie meals can cause greater sleep latency, and meals high in sodium can increase restlessness, and worsen sleep apnea.

📌Tips For Better Sleep

1️⃣Avoid big meals close to bedtime: Big meals elevate your metabolism and resting heart rate before bed and ultimately harm your sleep.

2️⃣Cut caffeine after midday: Be aware that the effects of a late afternoon cup of coffee can last much longer than you’d think. Caffeine can cause restless sleep and make it harder to fall asleep.

3️⃣Refrain from using wine as a sleep aid: While alcohol may help you relax before bed, too much can rob you of highly valuable REM sleep. the alcohol’s effects wear off, you’re more

4️⃣Opt for healthier late-night snacks: When hunger hits, you don’t have to ignore your body’s signals. But opt for a healthier evening snack that has balanced macronutrients, like hummus and carrot sticks, greek yogurt and fruit, or a banana with almond butter.

5️⃣Stay hydrated – but watch your water intake! Dehydration can impair sleep quality.

6️⃣Allow two to three hours for digestion: Your digestive system is generally more efficient during the day. Aim to eat dinner two to three hours before bed, to allow time for your body to begin digesting your meal.

11/06/2025

Whole-body cryotherapy improves mood, reduces anxiety, and enhances sleep quality, with specific enhancement in slow-wave, restorative sleep seen in a recent study.

🥶 Cold exposure offers surprising health benefits, and emerging evidence suggests that whole-body cryotherapy enhances wellness and even improves sleep.

📖 A recent study found that five days of daily cryotherapy improved mood, reduced anxiety, and enhanced sleep quality in healthy young adults.

🧐THE INTERVENTIONS

The study involved 20 physically active young adults who underwent five consecutive days of cryotherapy sessions and five consecutive days of no cold exposure.

The cryotherapy sessions lasted five minutes in a chamber cooled to -90°C (-130°F). Researchers used actimetry, brain activity recordings, and self-reported questionnaires to measure the participants’ sleep patterns. They also assessed their mood, anxiety, and heart rate variability during the nights following each condition.

📊THE FINDINGS

Participants who underwent cryotherapy reported a 9% improvement in subjective sleep quality, with women benefiting the most.

The cryotherapy sessions also increased slow-wave sleep, the most restorative sleep phase, by an average of seven minutes per night. No substantial changes were observed in heart rate variability or other sleep parameters.

BOTTOM LINE

These findings from this small study suggest that repeated whole-body cryotherapy is a promising strategy for improving slow-wave sleep and psychological well-being, especially for women.

👉🏻When it comes to restoring strength and function after an injury or surgery, accurate and objective measurements of muscle performance can make all the difference.

📊The DynaMo is a state-of-the-art digital handheld dynamometer designed to measure strength and power with precision, helping us accurately track your recovery.

🏢Designed specifically for clinical settings, the DynaMo Plus is instrumental in providing detailed assessments of muscle strength and power.

🧐 How Dynamometry Enhances Your Rehabilitation?

For patients recovering from orthopedic conditions—such as muscle strains, ligament injuries, joint replacements, or post-surgical rehabilitation—muscle strength and power are critical for regaining full function.

📝 BUT…rebuilding muscle strength without precise data can be challenging.

Digital handheld dynamometry gives us the “blueprint” we need to understand your muscle performance in detail.

Here’s how it makes a difference in your treatment:

1️⃣Baseline Measurements: At the beginning of your rehabilitation, we can establish a clear baseline of your muscle strength and power.

2️⃣Identifying Weaknesses: The device pinpoints specific muscle groups that may be underperforming. By identifying these areas, our physiotherapists can focus your treatment on the muscles that need the most attention, enhancing your recovery.

3️⃣Monitoring Progress: As you progress through your rehabilitation program, periodic assessments with the DynaMo Plus provide objective feedback on how your strength and power are improving. This data not only shows your progress but also helps us adjust your exercise regimen to keep your muscles appropriately challenged.

4️⃣Setting Goals: Clear, quantifiable data makes goal-setting more precise. Whether it’s increasing muscle force by a certain percentage or achieving a specific power output, these measurable targets can help guide your recovery process and keep you motivated.

🤝We are here to support you every step of the way, helping you rebuild strength, enhance power, and return to the activities you love with confidence.
