A tough slog up to Hamilton Lake in Yoho National Park but the view was divine. No one else on the mountain and the silence from the human world is hard to describe.

A couple more days tucked away by the Blaeberru River before I head home to beautiful Cochrane.

Happy weekend! 🌱🌳☀️

My body is comfortably sore after several hikes these past few days. Seeing so much natural beauty has been spiriting for me as i/we enter into the warming spring.

Through the quietude of nature, I’ve been able to listen to inner knowings, which are guiding me where to focus and where to let go.

I am grateful to live in an area with such natural beauty and wonder. Mother Nature is forgiving indeed but I am hopeful us humans can find reverie in the more than him world and treat her with loving kindness. The views are impossible to capture on a phone- but they remain in my mind’s eye.

So grateful to be able to connect with the more than human world as Swayze and I saw some Mountain goats, feeding and chilling. Such a lovely surprise there’s no video though of when Swayze chased one earlier on the hike 🐾

Tested the lungs on a beautiful Sunday hike to King’s Creek Ridge in Kananaskis on Sunday. it was a definite slog at the start and quite vertical, but the Ridgeline views were other worldly beautiful and impossible to capture with a camera. I was pushing an edge of my comfort zone, but felt rewarded for it.

Alomg with the views, felt the majesty of nature in all the forest smells and a soaring bald eagle that guided my hiking partner and I along.

it led to a discussion with my hiking partner, and I about how things that are difficult or sometimes more rewarding than things that are seemingly easier in the end.

I feel so blessed to be able to live in such a beautiful part of the world, and breathe along with the forest and natural spaces in unison .

In a little bit of welcome downtown, I’ve been able to connect to the readings of the ecologist and thinker David Abram.

The above quote is from his essay “Waking our Animal Senses: Language and the Ecology of Sensory Experience” which can be found on his website.

Rootedness

Being a psychologist as well as a nature, and forest therapy guide I find a lot of contentment, peace, and ease when I’m in nature. In order to handle fear, anger or uncertainty, nature has been a refuge. But it is also where I’ve hidden. Social anxiety and social media are strange bedfellows lol.

However, I am also finding a huge sense of rootedness when I remember the small but mighty group of friends and family around- and the new seedlings I’m finding and watering in Cochrane.

It is beautiful to see those close to me navigating different and challenging struggles with ease, humour and insight. They know who they are.

Thinking of Burstall Pass this morning. Hoping all the first responders and crews battling the fires are safe and have the resources needed.

This area is aglow in the fall with colour with the Larch trees blooming.

Feeling an ache of sadness for the seemingly perennial forest fire seasons impacts to the human and more than human world.
