Let’s talk about the liver, because it plays a big role in how we feel—especially with stress and hormone balance. Your liver helps detoxify stress hormones like cortisol and histamine. When histamine builds up (like during allergies or histamine intolerance), it might be because the liver isn’t breaking it down properly. That can cause things like rashes, digestive upset, or allergy-like reactions.
Cortisol’s also in the mix. It’s the main stress hormone, and when the liver’s congested or sluggish, it can affect how your body handles stress. This can even impact estrogen levels and adrenal function. Some say estrogen dominance from liver congestion might even drive up cortisol.
A healthy liver keeps everything moving—hormones balanced, digestion smooth, and your immune system steady. When the liver’s struggling, it can show up as hormone imbalances, digestive issues, or feeling run down.
Histamine intolerance is often linked to the body’s inability to break down histamine, sometimes because of low DAO enzymes. It can show up as headaches, skin stuff, or stomach troubles. I’ve seen this play out in A DETOX group I am part of, and I truly think post-COVID, menopause and perimenopause symptoms feel different for a lot of women.
A lot of symptoms we might just write off as “normal” could be way easier to handle if we gave our liver a little extra support. I’ve even seen people in this group think they had autoimmune issues, but after doing our detox work, their symptoms cleared up—even in their bloodwork! Just some food for thought.
