I’ll never forget when I was in physio for knee pain when I was 12, doing knee extensions for 30 minutes because I had no idea what I was supposed to be doing and the physio left me to do them on my own ….

Gah!!

Now as the physio … it’s part of my game plan to make sure that exercises and rehab are fun and interesting.

Sometimes it’s boring and you just have to do it. Not everything can be a game.

But, I do my best to explain WHAT the purpose of the exercise is, how it’ll make you a better athlete and throw in a bit of a challenge as we go!

Is what you’re doing helping your mind, your body or your soul? 🧠🦵🏻🕊️

When I was 12 I probably would have said get this woo-woo s*** out of here .. just kidding I definitely didn’t swear when I was 12 LOL 😂

But seriously, all I cared about was playing sports and doing ALL the things.🏃🏼‍♀️

Moms there’s room to bring some awareness to our girls about their choices and actions impacting them as a whole.

Is she spending all day in the sun, at school, wildly stimulated by friends and teachers and activities and then coming home and having a complete meltdown?

Is she constantly trying to fit in and do what everyone else is doing?

Is she feeling self conscious about her body, making comments like I wish I looked like her?

I’m sure your athlete is doing everything to push her body to be its best, but have we looked at the whole picture?

Here’s some suggestions to make sure your daughter’s (and yours!) mind, body and soul are well taken care of

Helping your MIND 🧠
- Journalling, I personally LOVED writing petty things in my diary LOL I often wrote about my feelings and this was definitely a way to cope with all the thoughts I had in my brain (sorry mom!!)
- Positive affirmations — cheese alert! But trust me, work together to find a phrase that she can say every morning before she goes to school that pumps her up and inspires her to be her best self

Helping your BODY 🏃🏼‍♀️
- REST!!!! Wait what? Yes, let her just chill and veg! But also help her find ways to make her body feel good, like restorative yoga or stretching
- Nature Walks 🦋 an after dinner stroll to watch the sunset or enjoy the outdoors, get some fresh air and help calm the nervous system, resets the body for all the kickass things she can do

Helping you SOUL 🕊️
- Try new things! Expose her to new hobbies or places, go on adventures and explore
- Be creative, try a new craft or inspire a new dance routine to let her be silly and let out that free flowing side of her 🎨

2. Lounge on beaches, deep breathes by the water
3. Wear your sunscreen!!! UV watchers beware
4. Drink your water, add fruit and herbs to spice it up
5. Discover new books, new hobbies, new adventures
6. Enjoy messy s’mores, melty ice cream and juicy fresh fruit
7. Build bonfires, enjoy bike rides and always ride the heel toe express
8. Capture the moments, big or small
9. Watch the glimmers of magic that happen all around you
10. For those who don’t slow down, risk missing out on this magnificent season

Stop thinking about what you SHOULD be doing or what someone else wants you to do

Spend more time settling in and getting to know yourself! What do you truly want.

Working with kids, I always get parents pushing the “you have to do it, even if you don’t want to”. And now, there’s time when yes we have to do the uncomfy and the face the suck … but know that you always get to have that choice.

Making sure that the choices you make are aligning with your goals, your wants and needs and your helping you become the best athlete you can both in and out of sport .. not just because a coach or a physio or a successful athlete said you should!

I’m a huge  fan!It’s a regular tool in my arsenal of helping women and girls of all ages having their best season yet .....

I’m a huge fan!

It’s a regular tool in my arsenal of helping women and girls of all ages having their best season yet .. and most importantly helping them KEEP DOING WHAT THEY LOVE while they work to get stronger, faster and more resilient.

While I don’t think you should tape forever, tape is a great tool to help bridge the gap while building up strength, stability and support in an injured body part.

Tape is even great to give the brain some information about where your body is in space … think turning the knees outward or helping the feet from rolling in.

Please use it freely!! Especially if it relieves some pain or helps your daughter feel more confident in her body. But remember anytime taping or bracing is being used, get her evaluated by a qualified professional to help figure out the root cause of the problem!!
