⚠️ Heat Warning in Effect ⚠️

We’re keeping cool and hydrated at Canterbury! 💧 Did you know that older adults are more vulnerable to heat-related illness because their bodies don’t adjust to sudden temperature changes as easily? Some medications and health conditions can also make it harder for them to stay cool.

That’s why during hot weather, it’s especially important to take a few extra steps to stay safe:

- Drink plenty of water throughout the day
- Stay in cool, shaded, or air-conditioned spaces
- Wear lightweight, breathable clothing
- Check in on seniors and vulnerable loved ones

Stay safe and cool, everyone!

When visiting loved ones here at Canterbury, good hand hygiene is one of the simplest (and most powerful!) ways to keep everyone safe and healthy.

- Wash hands with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds
- Use hand sanitizer when soap and water aren’t available
- Cover coughs and sneezes

Together, we can make sure visits are full of love, hugs, and happy memories – not germs. 💜

💙 At Canterbury, we believe that love should never be separated by care needs. That’s why we’re proud to offer options that allow couples to live together while receiving the individual support they need. Because home is wherever you’re with the one you love. 💙

Strong voices. Bold ideas. Unstoppable women. 💪✨

On May 13th, these incredible women represented Canterbury at the CHAA Conference, joining healthcare leaders from across Alberta for two days of advocacy, collaboration, and action.

We stood shoulder-to-shoulder with policymakers, CEOs, and changemakers—speaking up for seniors, for caregivers, and for a stronger, more compassionate healthcare system.

From Primary Care to Mental Health & Addiction, we weren’t just in the room… we were part of the conversation shaping the future of care in Alberta. ❤️

🎶 Sometimes the best moments aren’t planned… they just happen.

Our atrium recently came alive with an impromptu singing session that had everyone smiling. 💛

It’s these little bursts of joy that make Canterbury feel like home. 🏡✨

🐶 August is National Dog Month—a perfect time to celebrate the incredible ways dogs support people living with dementia!

Science shows that spending time with dogs can reduce stress hormones, lower blood pressure, and boost mood by increasing feel-good chemicals like oxytocin and serotonin. For those with dementia, dogs provide not just companionship but also cognitive and emotional benefits—helping reduce anxiety, improve social interaction, and even trigger positive memories.

The simple act of petting a dog can calm the nervous system and bring comfort when words are hard to find. It’s truly amazing how these furry friends help light up lives and deepen connections every day.

Let’s give a big shoutout to our canine companions this National Dog Month for the love, calm, and joy they bring to our residents! ❤️🐕
