We're working across the province to increase access to the health services we need to have the sex we want.

The Gay Men’s Sexual Health Alliance (GMSH) champions the health of 2GBTQ+ men in Ontario. We lead the development of cutting-edge sexual health promotion resources and collaborate with HIV service organizations and other service providers in Ontario to ensure 2GBTQ+ men have the information, supports and services they need to have the sex they want.

Our facilitator Mykiki will give a free workshop over Zoom on Thursday August 12 from 7pm to 9pm EST so that folks can get the facts and stay safe.

Today (July 28) is World Hepatitis Day. Hepatitis affects millions of people across the globe every year. Gay, bi, q***r guys and other men who have s*x with men are more likely to encounter hepatitis and it can cause more problems for folks living with HIV.

Thankfully, hepatitis responds well to treatment, and there are vaccines for hepatitis A and B!

They’re putting on a 6-part in-person workshop series in Toronto that begins NEXT WEEK on July 16. 🗓️🖊️

Doctors in New York and California have diagnosed among homos*xual men 41 cases of a rare and often rapidly fatal form of cancer. Eight of the victims died less than 24 months after the diagnosis was made.

The cause of the outbreak is unknown, and there is as yet no evidence of conta-gion. But the doctors who have made the diagnoses, mostly in New York City and the San Francisco Bay area, are alerting other physicians who treat large numbers of homos*xual men to the probe cases and eoduce hedelay inity fering chemotherapy treatment.

The sudden appearance of the cancer, called Kaposi’s Sarcoma, has prompted a medical investigation that experts say could have as much scientific as public health importance because of what it may teach causes of more common types of cancer.

First Appears in Spots
Doctors have been taught in the past that the cancer usually appeared first in spots on the legs and that the disease took a siow course of up to 10 years. But these recent cases have shown that it appears in one or more violet-colored spots anywhere on the body.

The spots generally do not itch or cause other symp-toms, often can be mistaken for bruises, sometimes appear as lumps and can tum brown after a period of time. The cancer often causes swollen lymph glands, and then kills by spreading throughout the body.

Doctors investigating the outbreak believe that many cases have gone undetected because of the rarity of the condition and the difficulty even dermatologists may have in diagnosing it.

In the world we live in today, a holistic view of health and wellbeing must include mental and emotional health alongside physical health. To provide client-centered healthcare that is tailored to the unique needs of q***r men, clinicians and healthcare providers should know how q***rness intersects with various facets of men's health.

This new factsheet, reviewed by Dr. Jordan Goodridge and Devan Nambiar is for frontline, healthcare and community workers serving q***r guys.takes an intersectional lens and looks at different factors such as HIV status, trauma, housing, race, age, ability, class, body image, substance use, etc. and makes suggestions for coping as well as improvements to the healthcare system.

On 12 June 2016, 49 people were killed and 53 others were wounded in a mass shooting inside Pulse, a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida on their Latin Night event. Most of the victims and survivors were Hispanic, many of Puerto Rican descent but also including roots in Mexico, Colombia and Venezuela.

Today, nine years later, we remember and honours the members of the LGBTQ+ and Latinx community who just wanted to celebrate their identities and live free, authentic lives.

On May 21, 1979, Dan White was convicted of “voluntary manslaughter” in the double homocide of San Francisco Mayor George Moscone and legendary gay activist and city supervisor Harvey Milk.

The light ruling and its defence (that White suffered mental health disorders brought on by depression as a result of a diet of sugary foods: the “Twinkie defence”) spurred outrage in the gay community which turned into the White Night Riots.

“Out of the bars and into the streets!” was the chant, as protesters marched down to city hall, where they lay damage but especially to police and civic property. The SFPD retaliated with an attack in the gay Castro neighbourhood, targeting the Elephant Walk bar in particular, its property and patrons, but also people on the street.

The next day in a press conference, Milk’s replacement at city hall as supervisor said, “Harvey Milk's people do not have anything to apologize for. Now the society is going to have to deal with us not as nice little fairies who have hairdressing salons, but as people capable of violence. We're not going to put up with Dan Whites anymore.”
