CVFP's mission is to provide outstanding primary care in a patient-partnered Health Home.

Our staff of seventeen family physicians, fifteen nurses and numerous support staff care for newborn to geriatric patients with a team-based approach that includes physicians, registered nurses, a pharmacist, psychologist, respiratory and diabetic educators, a dietitian and a nurse practitioner all working on-site in a collaborative and efficient model.

It’s ! A day to highlight the importance of self-care as a continuous and essential part of daily life, 24-hours-a-day, 7-days-a- week. Self-care simply means making time to do things that improve both our physical and mental health. It’s one of many ways you can take proactive steps towards better health and well-being.

In June 2025, nine residents completed their family medicine training journey with CVFP. Some of these doctors will be staying on as locums or new associates as we continue to train for the future. Other graduates plan to further specialize in areas including palliative care with additional training. We are also pleased to have helped a graduate who came to CVFP after experiencing some difficulties elsewhere. Under the knowledgeable guidance of CVFP family physician Dr. Karyn Richardson, we were able to get them back on track.

The OurCare project is conducting a new research survey, in partnership with the Canadian Medical Association, to hear from people across Canada about their experiences with primary care and where we can make improvements.

Dr. Tara Kiran, family doctor and renowned primary care researcher, launched OurCare to co-create a blueprint for a stronger, more equitable primary care system in Canada.

We continue to share the CVFP story. Today we welcomed Dr. Kim Simmonds (PhD), the CEO of Primary Care Alberta – a made-in-Alberta solution to improve access to the primary care services patients rely on.

It was an honour for our team to meet with Dr. Simmonds and to share CVFP’s vision for a primary care system where patients receive the care they need, providers are supported, and public funds are used wisely to improve health and well-being across Alberta.

Join us in welcoming Dr. Elaine Bland to the CVFP Rainbow Team. “I am excited to join the CVFP Health Team and work together to develop a model of multidisciplinary team-based care that serves our patients’ needs today and in the future,” says Dr. Bland.

Dr. Bland is a family doctor with over 20 years of experience in family practice in Calgary as well as a special interest in palliative care. She moved to Canada from the UK in 2001, having completed her family medicine training in England, Scotland, Australia and New Zealand. Dr. Bland holds a master’s degree in aviation medicine from the University of Otago, New Zealand and a Certificate of Added Competence in Palliative Care from the College of Family Physicians of Canada.
