The Canary System by Quantum Dental Technologies

The Canary System by Quantum Dental Technologies The Canary System™ is a revolutionary tool for the detection of early tooth decay to promote non-invasive healing instead of drilling and filling!

The Canary uses a low-power, pulsating laser light to scan teeth for the presence of dental caries or tooth decay. The laser light is absorbed by the tooth and two phenomena are observed: the laser light is converted into a form of fluorescence (luminescence) and converted into heat (less than 1 degree Celsius). This increase in heat will not harm the tooth but gives us important information on th

e tooth up to a depth of 5 mm below the surface. Simultaneous collection of the re-emitted heat and light provides us with information on the presence and extent of tooth decay below the tooth surface.

Just finished reviewing a paper for JDR Clinical & Translational Research. I have been doing reviews for a number of journals for the last 10 years but so pleased to be part of the editorial board for this journal.

Honoured to be one of Dentistry Today's Leaders in Continuing Education. Currently, I am involved in looking at the linkages between adverse childhood events and enamel malformation. I am also involved with a group of colleagues looking at the design and implementation of Canada's National Dental Program.
