Happy Friday! I hope this email finds everyone well.
As some of you may already know, Older & Wiser info series is back under partnership with the Monkland Community Center. We are starting on zoom/phone with hopes of being able to meet in person in the fall. This month (Friday, May 14th-1:00 p.m.), we will have a lively yet informative discussion on too often a difficult topic, preparing for death! But this will ultimately empower us to make our own informed decisions in these important areas.
Mary Pallet, a long time NDG resident/volunteer and a Funeral Director at Kane & Fetterly and Maitre Liat Lev Ary Liat, a notary in Quebec for the past 20 years and founder of Judicia, will be our speakers. Please bring your questions!
In order to attend this event, please send me an email to reserve (miranda.potts@preventioncdnndg.org) or leave a voicemail at 514-690-2034. You will then receive the link to zoom in and the phone number if you prefer to phone in, the night before the event.
I hope to see or hear you there!!

Rituals remind us how small we are in the scope of history. They can also reassure us that despite all evidence to the contrary, none of us is alone.

MARCH 11th, 2021 NATIONAL DAY OF OBSERVANCE FOR THE VICTIMS OF COVID-19
Our thoughts are with the 74,000 Québec families grieving loved ones.
Long standing traditions and funeral rights have been disrupted, but families have persevered with creative and intimate funerals filled with love and hope despite all the restrictions.
Kane & Fetterly extends heartfelt sympathies to all those who have endured incredible loss during this time.

Bridget Fetterly had a plan to split the staff at her family-owned funeral home in Montreal into two teams. That way, if one team was required to isolate, the second team could step in and keep the business operating. But as the death toll from COVID-19 began to rapidly rise, Fetterly realized she couldn't afford to only have half of her staff at Kane & Fetterly funeral home working — she was going to need everyone.

Funeral workers are labouring tirelessly to try and keep up with the demand of Canada's rising death toll from COVID-19. Many are needing to ration their PPE after having their orders diverted. Others are limiting funeral services to 10 people to comply with physical distancing measures.

Notre Histoire / Our Story

Today Kane & Fetterly is still locally owned and operated by the husband & wife team Bridget Fetterly and Paolo Bassi. »

Kane & Fetterly was founded in 1965 by Gary Fetterly, a young entrepreneur who took over the Kane Funeral Home from the previous owner Thomas Kane. Well aware of the excellent reputation that Kane had established over many years, and fully committed to continuing that high level of service to the community, Fetterly simply added his own name to the company. And so, though Kane and Fetterly never actually worked together, the Kane & Fetterly Funeral Home was born. Though young, Mr. Fetterly had thorough understanding of the business through his own father, Hugh, who had owned two funeral homes in the Montreal area. Today Kane & Fetterly is still locally owned and operated by the wife-and-husband team Bridget Fetterly and Paolo Bassi. “My father built this business by offering exceptional service on a very wholesome level,” explains Bridget Fetterly. “We continue this mission by guiding people through one of life’s most difficult times with the very best in expertise and loving hand-holding support. When our funeral counselors help families to plan for a traditional or contemporary funeral service, families are free to choose only those services that are meaningful to them and within their financial means. You will never experience pressure.”
