Recovery is rarely a straight line. For many, it’s years of trying, falling, questioning, and trying again. Our client’s words speak to the shift—that powerful moment when healing becomes less about fixing yourself and more about reclaiming your life. ✨

They bravely shared that the moment they were told, “You can continue to be sick if you want,” was the first time they felt true choice—and with it, the power to choose healing.

At Sööma, that’s what we’re here to offer: not a prescription, but a partnership. You decide the direction. You decide the speed.
We walk with you.

Whether you're just starting to think about recovery or you've been on this path for years, you deserve care that honors you. No shame. No pressure. Just support, however and whenever you're ready.

💛 If this resonates with you, or someone you love, reach out by phone or email. Our team is here to hold space, offer guidance, and help you build a life that’s bigger than your eating disorder.

If you’re BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, or a Person of Colour) and struggling with food or body image, you’re not alone — and you deserve support that actually sees you.

💬 Many of our clients have heard:
👉 “You don’t look like you have an eating disorder.”
👉 “Isn’t that a white girl problem?”
👉 “Just eat — that’s not a thing in our culture.”

These messages are harmful, false, and rooted in systemic bias.
And they keep people from getting the care they need.

Here’s how we tailor eating disorder support for BIPOC clients:

🌍 We honour cultural foods in recovery.

🧘🏾‍♀️ We understand how racism, trauma, and body surveillance can show up in disordered eating.

🤝 We listen without assumptions — and build trust through cultural humility and care.

🧏🏽‍♂️ We challenge Eurocentric body ideals and make space for your lived experience.

🎯 Eating disorders don’t discriminate. Neither should treatment.

💛 If you’re looking for a safe, inclusive space where you can heal — join our BIPOC Eating Disorders Support Group.

Here are the details:

🟣 Today is World Eating Disorders Action Day 🟣

Today is about raising awareness, breaking stigma, and taking action. 💜✨

Here are some actions you can take today if you or someone you know is struggling:

1️⃣ Educate Yourself and Others
📚 Read and share resources about eating disorders (types, signs, myths, and treatments).
🔍 Follow reputable organizations like NEDA for science-based information.

2️⃣ Use Your Voice on Social Media
📱 Post using hashtags like ,
💬 Share your personal story (if you're comfortable) to help reduce stigma.
🎨 Share infographics, videos, or quotes that educate and inspire.

3️⃣ Attend a Community Event
🧘‍♀️ Join a webinar, panel discussion, or community gathering.
🎤 Join a virtual talk, Q&A with a dietitian or therapist, or a body image workshop.
🖌️ Join a healing-focused event (e.g., yoga, journaling, art, or mindfulness).

4️⃣ Advocate for Policy Change
📣 Join or support advocacy groups working on ED-related policy changes.
✍️ Sign petitions and write to representatives to push for better access to care.

5️⃣ Support or Donate to ED Organizations
💵 Make a donation to a trusted organization working in treatment access, awareness, or support (like Project HEAL).
🤝 Volunteer your time or skills (graphic design, translation, admin support, etc.).

6️⃣ Practice Allyship
🗣️ Be mindful of your language and the way you talk about bodies and food.
🚫 Challenge diet culture, body shaming, and fatphobia in conversations.
💞 Support someone in your life who may be struggling—listen, validate, and refer to help.

7️⃣ Take Care of Your Own Relationship with Food and Body
🧠 Reflect on your own beliefs around food, weight, and health.
📴 Disconnect from triggering social media and follow body-neutral or recovery-friendly accounts.
👩‍⚕️ Consider working with an anti-diet dietitian or therapist if you need support.

As dietitians, we’re trained to address disordered eating — but what happens when a client also lives with ADHD?

Clients with ADHD often struggle with executive function, sensory regulation, impulse control, and all-or-nothing thinking — all of which can deeply affect how they experience food, eating, and recovery. And when these challenges are misunderstood, it’s easy for clients to feel like they’re “failing” treatment.

🧠 That’s why ADHD-informed care matters — and why we created:

✨ The Intersection Between ADHD & Eating Disorders
A self-paced, neuro-affirming training for dietitians.

📚 In this course, led by our very own dietitian Vanessa, you’ll learn how to:
✔️ Identify ADHD-related eating challenges (even when they’re masked)
✔️ Offer practical accommodations to support executive functioning
✔️ Use ACT, DBT, and IFS tools in a way that honors neurodivergence
✔️ Help clients build self-trust, reduce shame, and find lasting progress

This training is rooted in trauma-informed care and packed with real-world tools you can implement in your daily practice. Whether you're just starting to explore neurodivergent care or you want to deepen your skillset, this course will meet you where you are.

You don’t need a “summer body.” You already have a body — and it’s summer.

This summer, you’re allowed to:
✅ Wear what feels good
✅ Opt out of things that don’t
✅ Take up space, just as you are

We know this season can bring complicated feelings. If you’re struggling with body image, you’re not alone, and you don’t need to face it alone either.

💛 We see you. And we’re here to support you — not in changing your body, but in healing your relationship with it.

✨ Let this be the summer you move toward peace with your body.
