New RMT in the house!

We’re beyond thrilled to introduce you all to Tara Blatchford, RMT! She’s new to Campbell River and we know you’ll all give her a warm welcome! - Especially because she’s taking new patients😜

Tara graduated from West Coast College of Massage Therapy in December 2014. Since completion she had added continuing education courses in lumbopelvic stabilization for reducing low back pain, joint mobilizations and IASTM tool training to help with soft tissue dysfunction. Working in a spa environment after graduation, she practiced many modalities for relaxation and stress relief while incorporating a therapeutic approach as well during the session. Tara uses a variety of techniques in treatment including- but not limited to; trigger point therapy, contractile myofascial release, joint mobilizations, active/passive stretching, swedish massage and instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM). She is eager to further her education and training in the upcoming future to provide more tools and techniques for her patients.

Outside the office, she enjoys spending time with her family and looking forward to exploring the West Coast.

Tara is at our downtown location for the next month while we get our newest expansion squared away. You’ll be able to find her in Willow Point come August.

You can book with Tara on our website, be sure to get those appointments booked while they’re still available.

✨️We are so excited to announce a NEW addition to our downtown clinic team!❤️

Margaret Bird, RMT (goes by Maggie), will be joining us at the end of August. You can book with her on our booking platform: Formwellnessclinic.janeapp.com or via our website formwellness.ca by clicking "Book Downtown."

Here is a little bit about her below 👇

Hi, I’m Maggie RMT. Thank you for reading my bio!

It’s my belief that massage therapy can be modified to be safe and healing for everyone, and my style reflects that. A key concept of my practice is adapting to what you want and need as a client. Are you here to rehab an injury? Maintain your mobility and strength as a senior? Get relief to help manage a chronic pain condition? Calm your nervous system and fight off burnout? Each person’s goals are different, and so should their massage therapy treatments.

I tend to use a combination of PNF stretching, gentle joint distraction, fascial techniques, trigger point approximation, and honestly, a lot more. I’ve been developing my use of dermoneuromodulation (DNM) over the last year as well for trickier chronic pain conditions.

Most of my practicums in school involved complex medical needs and focused on how to keep people safe while providing an effective treatment. I participated in many outreaches to hospice facilities, long-term care hospitals, and day programs for seniors and adults with developmental disabilities. Since graduating I’ve made an effort to keep up those skills and regularly make visits to assisted living facilities to work with those people whose health keeps them from making it into the clinic. I have experience working with clients who are paraplegic, have parkinsons, rheumatoid arthritis, heart problems, and more.

If you have any questions, then please don’t hesitate to reach out by email or phone, and I’m more than happy to have a chat and answer your questions. I’ll be so happy to meet you and work with you to find a style of massage therapy that helps you reach your goals!

ACUPUNCTURE | REGISTERED MASSAGE THERAPY | YOGA

A space centered around kindness, knowledge and connection.

Previously Discovery Passage Massage Therapy, we opened the doors in 1990 on a little street that is now where the Seymour Pacific building stands. The clinic was started by Cheryl Hebb and boasted “Deep Tissue Massage”. 6 years later, the business moved the the basement studio in Cheryl’s house at 171 Alder street. In 2010, though Cheryl loved Campbell River and it’s residents, she decided to move to Halifax to be closer to her father. Lindsay Dennis took over the practice in February of 2010 right out of school. Lindsay, like Cheryl, practice with a deeper pressure with the addition of manual, orthopaedic adjustments and remedial exercise. In 2013 we welcomed Rob Marrison, who also shared our deep muscular, orthopaedic adjustment and remedial exercise treatment style. It became clear mid way through 2018 that we were going to need more space to expand our growing practice and were fortunate to be able to expand into the neighbouring suite. With this expansion, we’ve added acupuncture and welcomed Laura Heslin to the menu to round out our offerings and touch on musculoskeletal and whole body treatments from a new angle.

With this newfound space, we quickly realized that we had an opportunity to create a space where we could offer yoga as a form of remedial exercise. We often recommend it to patients as a way to strengthen and create flexibility and now we can streamline what’s offered. But we’re not only offering yoga. We’re able to offer a controlled menu of classes that appeal to the various musculoskeletal injuries, syndromes, and ailments that the clinic has been treating for the last 28 (almost 29) years. We’ve focused on offering classes tailored to the dynamic in the room, so that the classes are truly focused on what the needs of the participants are, as well as the classic classes that Campbell Riverites have become accustomed to, with a twist..
