Most women think that can't lose weight think it's about calories, carbs, or how much they’re exercising.

But the hormone that often gets overlooked is the one running the whole show:

CORTISOL

When cortisol (your stress hormone) is running high for too long, your body shifts into protection mode (it's actual job)
It stores more fat through your midsection.
It slows digestion.
Your sleep becomes lighter and more disrupted.
Your cravings get stronger.
Your energy feels unpredictable.

Not because you’re doing anything wrong.
But because YOUR BODY IS TRYING TO KEEP YOU SAFE!

So when you try to push harder -- eat less -- do more cardio -- or tighten up your routine even more

Your body responds by holding on tighter AKA not releasing body fat.

The work is not to fight your body
It’s to understand what it’s asking for 💡

Bringing cortisol back into balance can look like:

Most women are told their metabolism slows down in their 40s because they’re “getting older.”
But that’s not actually what’s happening

Your metabolism didn’t just quit on you
It adapted

Your hormones start to shift in your late 30s and 40s
➡️Cortisol changes
➡️Blood sugar becomes more sensitive
➡️Progesterone begins to drop
➡️Muscle recovery takes more effort.

This doesn’t mean you’re doing anything wrong
It just means your body is operating with new instructions, that no one gave you the updated manual for 🙄

So what do most women do when this happens?

They eat less
They push harder in their workouts
They cut carbs
They start Fasting to cut calories
They “try to be good.”

You've been taught to eat less if you want to lose weight

I was taught that too

Unfortunately, after 40 this is no longer true.

If you eat too little now, your cortisol (stress hormone) will increase because it is trying to keep you safe. When a stress response is triggered, that's just what it does.

When stress hormone increases, fat gets stored in the belly....

Eating enough food helps your body feel safe.

Eating at regular intervals, helps your body feel safe.

When your body feels safe it will release weight (and/or belly fat)

It's a hard truth to swallow... I know! It took me years to wrap my head around it.

But once I did, my belly fat slowly disappeared!

So maybe stop having only coffee for breakfast and skipping lunch if you want to lose belly fat.

Maybe you crave something sweet after dinner

Maybe you crave salt and grab for a bag of chips

Maybe you crave wine to help you unwind after a hard day

Let me be the first to tell you that your cravings don't mean you aren't disciplined or have enough willpower....

Cravings happen... but usually they are a sign that your body is lacking something.

Here's what they mean so you can stop beating yourself up and now understand what they are trying to tell you!

🍫 Craving sugar or carbs all day
Your cortisol and blood sugar are likely out of sync and you're likely lacking in healthy fats.
Start your day with a protein/fat - rich breakfast and get morning sunlight exposure.

🧂 Craving salt
This often points to adrenal stress and not consuming enough sea salt.
Add electrolytes or a pinch of sea salt to your water, especially on busy or high-stress days.

🍞 Craving bread or pasta at night
This is a sign that you undereat early in the day.
If breakfast is coffee and lunch is a light salad, your body will make up for missed nutrients and energy later!

🍷 Craving wine to unwind
This usually means your nervous system is overloaded!
Alcohol temporarily reduces stress hormones, which is why it feels calming, but it also disrupts sleep and blood sugar & increases stress on your body (bc it's a toxin)
Wean yourself off of his habit... know that your body needs to properly unwind and get ready for sleep. Perhaps enjoy a glass of Magnesium (put it in a wine glass for effect) which will help promote sleep and wind down naturally.

So as you can see, your cravings aren't random, lack of willpower or that you are undisciplined... it's your body's way of communicating

Let's get one thing straight... PEANUT BUTTER IS A SOURCE OF FAT AND SUGAR

I hear so many women say they get their protein from Peanut Butter.

Wherever you learned that from... unlearn it, because it is not true

Peanut butter is a fat, with very little protein in it.

And it's not one of the good fats either!

It's always good to read the label and make sure you understand what it is you are eating.

Too many unhealthy fats will add extra belly fat... and I know you don't want that!

We’ve been taught that coffee = energy

But for women over 40, running on stress hormones, that morning cup might be doing the opposite.

When Suzanna came to me, she was exhausted but couldn’t function without her 3 coffees a day.

She’d wake up tired, crash by 3 PM, and tell herself, “I just need more caffeine.”

But her saliva test told a different story! Her cortisol (stress hormone) was high from morning to night. Which meant her body wasn’t tired from lack of coffee… it was tired from too much stress.

Here’s what was happening:

😭Every time she reached for another cup, it spiked her cortisol --> the very hormone already keeping her wired and exhausted.

😭That constant push left her adrenals depleted, her blood sugar unstable, and her energy completely dependent on caffeine.

😭No amount of coffee could fix that. In fact, it was keeping her in the burnout loop!!

Once Suzanna started stabilizing her blood sugar, hydrating properly, and supporting her adrenals instead of pushing them, her energy finally came back! yay 🙌

She didn’t need coffee anymore to survive her mornings. She actually woke up feeling rested.

Work is busy

Kids are keeping you running from one place to another

You’re trying to get to the gym & walking daily (even for 10 minutes)

Packing your lunch for work instead of eating out

And then the weekend comes and you need a break!

You sleep in

You don’t have a schedule

You eat when you feel hungry

And you just want to relax and unwind from the week with a glass of wine and maybe a few chips.

I know this sounds like you because this is 99% of all women I talk to.

I get it. Weekends are meant to unwind and rest up for the week

But what if your weekends are the problem?

You want to have a flatter stomach, toned arms and lose some weight

But if you eat “well” for 5 out of 7 days that’s only 71%

She didn’t need another 12-week program. She needed answers.

We’ve been told that if we just push harder >> track the food, do the workouts, stay “consistent”, the results will come.

But when you’re in perimenopause or menopause, and your hormones are completely shifting, your body stops responding to those old rules.

Another diet won’t fix what’s happening underneath the surface.

When she came to me, she didn’t need more restriction, she needed data. So we TESTED instead of guessing and what we found told a much deeper story.

Her cortisol showed full-on burnout, the reason she woke up exhausted no matter how long she slept. Her progesterone was sky-high, a sign her body was trying to protect itself from gut inflammation. Her estrogen was bottomed out, which explained the hot flashes, brain fog, and sudden weight gain that came out of nowhere.

It wasn’t that she lacked willpower! Her body was overwhelmed. Her sleep was the first clue her hormones were struggling. Then came the afternoon crashes, the wine to unwind, and rapid weight gain over six months that didn’t make sense.

Now that we know exactly what her body needs from testing, our focus will be balancing blood sugar to calm cortisol spikes and stabilize energy, supporting her adrenals and gut to reduce stress signals and rebuild resilience, and lowering inflammation through food, products, and toxin reduction...because stress isn’t just emotional; it’s chemical, too.

And already, in just 3 weeks, her energy is climbing, her bloating is less, and she’s down 2 lbs — a huge win after months of steady gain.
