This month, the Sickle Cell Awareness Group of Ontario (SCAGO) and Canadian Blood Services came together in Toronto for a powerful Black History Month donor event — honouring the life of Reshaun Ronald Gabriel and celebrating the strength of the African, Caribbean, and Black community ❤️

Sickle cell patients often rely on closely matched blood from ethnically similar donors. Increasing Black donor participation isn’t just important — it’s lifesaving.

Thank you to the families, advocates, donors, and community leaders who showed up with heart and purpose.

Did you know that some organ recipients will need more than one organ transplant throughout their lives? That was the case for Katie 💗

Diagnosed with heart failure at 21, Katie received two transplants, one in 2003 and another in 2017 when the first began to fail. Thanks to the generosity of organ donors, Katie got so much more than a heart; she got a chance to be there for her children’s futures.

Giving someone a second (or even third chance) at life is the most incredible legacy you could leave 🌟
