September is Sports Eye Safety Month!

📍According to new data from the "Prevent Blindness" association, there were more than 32,600 sports-related eye injuries treated in Canada in 2024.

📍Data shows that the “pool and water sports” category had the highest rate of eye injuries in 2024. Second place was the “non-powder guns, darts, arrows and slingshots” category and finally, in third place was "basketball".

Did you know?!

🤓 If your child had a "school screening" within their daycare for preschool setting, this IS NOT considered an eye exam. School screenings miss a lot of vision issues and do not check the health of your child's eyes in any way!

🖍Nova Scotia has a new program for children called 𝗘𝘆𝗲 𝗦𝗲𝗲…𝗘𝘆𝗲 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻. This program includes children in pre-primary and primary who hold a valid MSI card. The child can come see us for their eye exam (𝗙𝗥𝗘𝗘 for those children under 10 years of age) and if required they will receive a 𝗙𝗥𝗘𝗘 pair of eyeglasses through the program.

Set your child up for success this school year! Contact us today to book your eye exam appointments. We are always accepting new patients.

🤓Vision disorders in children are VERY common: about 1 in 17 preschoolers and 1 in 4 school age children require vision treatment. Many children with vision disorders remain undiagnosed and untreated as children do not usually complain about their vision and these vision issues are not usually very obvious.
