I thought some of you science nerds might be interested in the fact that PEMF therapy's potential to affect the parasympathetic nervous system is quite fascinating, especially in horses. After witnessing a variety of relaxation responses during or after sessions with PEMF it was very timely that I came across studies from Gerald Bauernfeind, who emphasizes the mental well-being benefits of PEMF for animals, alongside its physical health advantages.?
It made sense that I would explore this, as even though I understood that PEMF therapy is not just for physical well-being as it is known for promoting relaxation and reducing stress in humans so why would it not be any different for horses who are also “feeling beings. As a Natural Horsemanship Teacher, it fits the state that I am always talking about with students.
I talk alot about the importance of bringing peace to horses when they can believe that we “know stuff’. This level of leadership is where they can step back and trust that you will not put them into a state of confusion or danger.
Now there are clear studies that shows that PEMF can activate the parasympathetic nervous system (rest and digest) and when
the horse is there, stress is declines and when the horses in this state of peaceful mind, it is better to work together to build trust.
Because horses are associative learners, when he can be in this state of peacefulness with you present, then that connection is made and that increases trust as it feels good...what feels good is associated with us.
I love this PEMF science.
