Wise Wednesday: Did you know that Omega-3 fatty acids have been proven to reduce the risk and severity of heart disease, high cholesterol, rheumatoid arthritis and dementia? In December 2019, none of us could have predicted the shift that we would see in how we provide care in 2020. With our new online store, you will be able to receive automated product reminders, re-order your contact lenses and dry eye products anytime you want, and easily request appointments for you and your loved ones through our online booking system. You don’t have to be our patient to purchase from us!

Pro-tip: Beware of lash enhancement products and procedures - in recent years, people have gone to great lengths to make their eyelashes look thicker and fuller. Albeit beautiful, they can cause some pretty awful eye related problems if consumers don’t take proper precautions.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What are eyelash extensions? Synthetic, silk or mink fibres that are individually applied to a clients natural lashes using tweezers and a variety of semi-permanent glues and adhesives.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Common eye related risks of eyelash extensions:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🔹Allergic reactions including eye redness and itchiness due to formaldehyde in various glues and adhesives⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🔹Infections such as blepharitis and demodex (lash mites) from inadequate lash hygiene⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🔹Loss of natural eyelashes from constant rubbing, tugging or pulling of the natural lashes or damage to the eyelash follicle⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🔹Inflammation of the eyelids and ocular surface
🔹Eye trauma from fibres getting into the eye (could result in a corneal abrasion) or from damage during application

We have some exciting news‼️ Dr. Kanji is now offering tele-optometry consultations via Doxy.me for some eye emergencies 💻 👨🏻‍⚕️ We are still offering in office emergency eye care by appointment if virtual visits are not sufficient. Routine eye-care is still suspended until further notice, following the directives of the Ministry of Health and the College of Optometrists of Ontario. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

NEW DIMENSION EYE CARE COVID-19 UPDATE:

In light of the current situation regarding the spread of COVID-19 in Canada, we would like to provide our patients and families with an update on our processes at New Dimension Eye Care.

Following directives from the Ministry of Health and the College of Optometrists of Ontario we have suspended all routine eye care until further notice. We will still be available for urgent/emergency eye care via tele-optometry consultations with Dr. Kanji or by appointment for those cases where telemedicine is not sufficient.

Your health and safety are our biggest priority and we will communicate any updates and changes with you as more information becomes available. Patients will be informed once regular hours and services have resumed.

*Urgent/emergency eye care constitutes any sudden change or loss of vision, eye trauma, pain or significant discomfort in one or both eyes. The following are symptoms that may occur in an eye emergency:

- Flashes of light and/or new floating dark spots in vision
- Sudden loss of or blurry vision
- Eye pain
- Significant eye redness
- Significant new onset light sensitivity
- Discharge from eyes
- Eye trauma (e.g., a baseball hit the eye)
- Chemical burn or foreign body in the eye

Attention Contact Lens Wearers: During these times of uncertainty, we urge all contact lens wearers to maintain healthy and hygienic contact lens habits, while keeping an adequate supply of lenses on hand. We are offering FREE at-home shipping on contact lens orders during this time for patients who have a valid contact lens prescription.

Dry Eye Products: We are also offering at-home shipping on some of our dry-eye products including preservative free artificial tears and lid wipes.
