Something happens.
A thought appears.
A feeling follows.
And before you know it, you are suffering — not because of what happened, but because of what your mind decided it meant.

When something feels hard what do u do? And why does it feel hard?

Let’s look first at what you do. Do you shut down going into fear and anxiety? Do you buckle down and get 'er done? Do you jump into learning mode to expand your understanding to gain confidence in what you need to do?

This awareness helps direct you to take action to create the inner experience you want.

Now, why is your mind interpreting the task as hard? Is it because you are unsure of what to do? Lack knowledge? Or do you doubt yourself and your abilities? Lack faith in yourself?

What belief is hiding behind all of this?

The first thing to realize is that it’s hard because you believe it is hard. But is that true? Are you stuck in one of the issues raised in the above questions?

The next thing to think about is: is it hard because of how you define yourself? Do you believe that you are incapable or stupid? Or do you believe that learning something new is challenging and a challenge is difficult? Or perhaps you fear others judging you for lacking knowledge or skill?

Dig deeply into this.

When we interpret something as hard, stress often follows. Yet it doesn’t have to.

When you are aware of what you believe and question the validity of that belief then you can change how you interpret the situation.

You can choose to "buy into" a belief that your task is hard and wallow in difficulty OR you can choose what to believe about the task and yourself and meet it squarely with resolve.

It’s a powerful process to get inside those beliefs and change what causes your stress.

Self-doubt.

We all slip into this from time to time but the truth is... we all have tons of expertise in our chosen exploits or projects based not just on education alone but (and some would say more importantly) on our life experience.

Self-doubt sets in when we try to be something we are not, reaching beyond our expertise to give something to the world that we actually do not have... OR... when we do have the expertise but someone judges us or questions what we have to say. It is quite natural in the second scenario, especially, to plummet into self-doubt.

It's easy to say the solutions here are:
1. Stay within your expertise. Be your genuine self.
2. Be confident in what you DO know. AND recognize when you can learn from someone else's expertise.

These two situations come up often enough to throw us off our game, but what lies beneath self-doubt is usually some sort of belief hidden deep inside that does not support us.

What belief or beliefs do you cling to that makes you question yourself?

Is it a belief about worthiness?

Is it a belief about failure?

Is it a belief that compares you to everyone else who is more than you are... more educated, more experienced, more expressive, braver... that makes you feel you are less-than?

The solution here is to transform your beliefs.

How?

First increase your awareness of your inner dialogue. Then, question the validity and evidence of the belief that does not support you. Then, consciously create a new belief that does support you. And a bonus... explore the spiritual purpose of your self-doubt.

Where has your path taken you?

I recently watched a webinar about creating an audiobook. While I am miles away from being ready to record my book as an audiobook, I was inspired. My inspiration was not the content of the webinar. It was the gentleman presenting it. His name is Derek Doepker and his business is helping authors publish and market their book. What popped at me was his background as a musician. His career journey started in music and he wound up in publishing and marketing. And here he was using his expertise in sound production to guide authors through the audiobook process. Once a musician always a musician was a thought I had. His brain is hardwired to hear the subtly of sound to accurately edit audiobooks, which takes some good amount of work to produce with quality.

It made me realize something interesting about myself. I have a background in Social Work. I know I use my counselling skills constantly and have since I graduated. But I suddenly had that epiphany of once a Social Worker always a Social Worker. My brain is hardwired to assess mine and other people’s experiences from a perspective of pulling together the emotional responses, thoughts, typical human behaviours, and relationship patterns, etc. to gain a big picture of what’s happening inside someone and in me. Even though my career path took me into yoga and consciousness training, I am still a Social Worker at heart and use those skills all the time.

And all of those experiences have contributed to my Self-Transformation Method for transforming emotional struggle into lasting inner peace using consciousness training tools that open your mind and increase your awareness of your inner world to empower you to choose what to change inside you.

Take a moment of reflection today. Where has your life path taken you? What foundation did you set early on that still guides your work and life today even though you are perhaps not in that line of work directly anymore?
