If you’ve noticed your therapist’s title says Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying), you may wonder what that means for your care.
After completing a Master’s degree, therapists registered with the CRPO (College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario) enter a Qualifying stage. This simply means they are actively seeing clients while engaging in regular, structured clinical supervision until they meet a set number of clinical hours.
This process is designed to ensure the highest level of care, professionalism, and knowledge is brought into each session with every client.
Once therapists complete these hours, they move to Registered Psychotherapist status, but many continue ongoing clinical supervision throughout their careers. While not required at this stage, it is highly encouraged and embraced by most therapists to ensure they continue providing quality, ethical, and effective care while growing in their professional development.
Supervision is not about “checking up” on therapists. It’s about ensuring your care is informed, ethical, and rooted in a collaborative, reflective practice to support your unique journey while maintaining your anonymity.
If you have questions about this process or what it means for your therapy, we’re always happy to chat.
