Meet Allison Nelson, our newest counselor at TWO.

Hi, I’m Allison. I’m a counsellor who has spent the last 20 years supporting neurodivergent kids, teens, and their families. My path to this work was shaped by a deep respect for the messy, imperfect nature of being human and a realization that many of us are trying to fit into boxes that simply weren’t built for us.

I’m q***r, neurodivergent, and a firm believer that therapy shouldn’t feel like a clinical interrogation. I especially love working with the "square pegs"— the folks who feel a bit out of step with the world, who have spent years masking or "holding it together" and who are ready to stop apologizing for how their brains work.

My work is person-centered and humanistic. This means I’m not here to be the "expert" who tells you how to live; I’m here to walk alongside you with genuine empathy and zero judgment. I’m not big on rigid protocols or "fixing" people.

Grounded in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), I bring curiosity, a bit of humor, and a commitment to showing up as a real person in the room. We’ll work together to make sense of the hard stuff, build practical skills, and move toward a life that actually feels like yours...not the one you think you're "supposed" to have.

Areas of Focus
- Neurodivergent Pre-Teens, Teens, & Adults: Supporting Autistic and ADHD folks in a way that honors their sensitivities and strengths without the pressure to mask.
- LGBTQ2S+ Affirming Care: Providing a space where you don’t have to over-explain the nuances of identity and belonging.
- Parenting Support: Helping parents navigate advocacy and burnout while staying regulated and compassionate (to their kids and themselves).
- Anxiety & "Not Enough-ness" Shifting the relationship with those spiraling thoughts and perfectionistic "shoulds"

Choosing a counsellor is a big step, and finding the right "vibe" is the most important part. If you’re looking for a space where you can land just as you are, without the pressure to be "fixed" or to perform, I’d love to hear from you.

Feel free to reach out to schedule a brief, low-pressure consultation to see if we’re a good fit.

Being a dad can be meaningful, exhausting, steadying, confusing — sometimes all in the same day. Many fathers juggle work, relationships, parenting, and the pressures of everyday life, yet rarely have space to talk honestly about the load they carry.

This 90-minute conversation offers a relaxed, respectful environment for dads to pause, share, and connect over real-life experiences of fatherhood. There’s no pressure to overshare — just an opportunity for thoughtful discussion, practical insight, and a chance to step out of “dad mode” for a moment. Light refreshments will be provided.

Who should attend?
Whether you’re a new dad struggling through sleepless nights, parenting toddlers or school-aged kids, or supporting teens and young adults building their independence, this space is for you.

About the Facilitator
Tim Soril is a father of two young children, an educator, and a Registered Clinical Counsellor with over 15 years of experience supporting children and parents. As a school counsellor, he works closely with families, helping them navigate everyday challenges, emotions, and transitions.

As a dad himself, Tim understands how isolating fatherhood can feel and how hard it can be to share the daily ups, downs, and pressures out loud. His approach focuses on creating a safe, respectful, and judgment-free space where dads can explore fatherhood together and talk through the highs and lows of parenting.

Details:
• Registration required (limited to 12 participants; minimum 6 to run). Please complete the form
• $15 commitment fee (credited toward a future individual counselling or group session if you attend)
• Your spot will be held for 24 hours after registration; it is confirmed once payment is received
• Cancellations with 48 hours’ notice will receive a full refund; less than 48 hours’ notice or no-shows are non-refundable

Pull up a chair. You don’t have to do this alone.

New Blog Post: The New BC Disability Funding Model for Children and Youth with Support Needs by Koryn Heisler

As most parents and families have heard, the government made a huge announcement regarding Autism Funding and introduced a new funding model on February 10th, 2026. I noticed my social media blowing up; some disability groups were excited about the announcement, while the autism community in particular, was quite upset about the move away from autism funding.

Join us on Wednesday, March 4th at 10am for Part 2 of our Workshop with Catriona Misfeldt.

In Part 2, we’ll focus on practical, parent-friendly strategies to support planning,
organization, and time management. Parents will leave with a simple, personalized action plan to help scaffold one executive function skill in a way that builds capacity, confidence, and independence over time.

This workshop is supportive, strengths-based, and grounded in how the brain works. It offers clarity, reassurance, and tools you can use right away.

And don't worry if you missed part 1. No registration is required.

Welcome Marianne Campbell, our newest tutor at This World's Ours Centre.

Marianne is a certified teacher and intern counsellor who supports children and teens in building the executive functioning and academic skills they need to feel confident and more in control of school. With training in both education and counselling psychology, she specializes in helping learners who feel anxious, overwhelmed, or stuck, offering a warm, trauma‐informed, and
neurodiversity‐affirming approach that supports both students and their families.

Marianne helps students strengthen skills such as organization, planning, time management, task initiation, and emotional regulation. She is known for her calm presence, practical strategies, and ability to break overwhelming tasks into manageable steps. Her work emphasizes building independence and routines that help students thrive in and out of the classroom.

Sessions follow a consistent structure that models the executive functioning skills she teaches. The first session includes an EF assessment to identify strengths and needs. Students then learn through real‐life practice, hands‐on activities, and EF‐based games that make skill‐building engaging and relevant. Optional sensory‐friendly tools support focus and regulation for learners
of all ages.

Alongside EF coaching, Marianne provides academic tutoring, parent support, and guidance with school navigation — including IEP meetings, teacher communication, and transition planning.

Sessions are offered both in‐person and virtually. She currently offers sessions on Wednesday evenings and Saturdays, and parents are welcome to reach out with their availability if those times don’t work; she is happy to explore additional options.

Parents are invited to reach out for a complimentary 20‐minute consultation to learn more and discuss their child’s needs.

Broadway Construction Update: For everyone that has been driving to the centre, you are aware that Broadway is closed between Main & Quebec St, as the province is building the new subway line.

There is a detour in effect for buses and local traffic on Main St, E 8th Ave, and Quebec St. They are trying to reduce traffic on 10th Ave, so please give yourself extra time to drive to the centre, as there may be new detours in the future.
