It’s natural for many of us to feel the urge to go outdoors when we’re feeling stressed or overwhelmed🌱

Spending time outside when we are grieving can be a powerful tool to help us process and heal, providing a sense of calm in the midst of the whirlwind of emotions many people feel after having lost someone dear.

There are many ways a family can choose to commemorate their person. One of them is scanning their loved one’s fingerprints to keep, print, or even engrave onto jewelry ☝️

Watch the video to learn more about the process.

"This approach furthers the state’s interests the way an atom bomb would further the eradication of a residential ant infestation," the order reads.

How do seasons affect grief?

Some, like our deathcare guide and funeral director Rebecca, feel most comfortable doing their grieving rituals outside, but that isn’t easy if grief finds you in the colder seasons.

One thing to remember is that any action done with intention can be a grieving ritual, whether that’s going for a walk or lighting a candle 🕯️

Thoughtful end-of-life planning begins with reflecting on who you are and what matters to you.

It might sound odd, but planning ahead for death can be an empowering act: one that allows you to understand and decide how you’ll be remembered, mourned, celebrated, and cared for after your death.

If you’re interested in learning more about pre-planning, we’re here to help – and we value the courage it takes to start these difficult conversations. Learn more on our website or reach out to us any time.

What if your last act was one that gave back to the earth?

There are a lot of ways to practice more sustainable deathcare:

💚 Forgoing embalming chemicals in favour of natural methods

💚 Using a biodegradable casket or shroud

💚 Opting for a sustainable form of disposition, such as terramation or green burial

💚 Choosing memorial markers made from local, sustainable, natural or biodegradable materials

What does ceremony mean to you?

We believe that any activity carried out with intention can be considered ceremonial. Some examples:

🕯️ Reciting a verse from a song while lighting a candle

🍽️ Setting a place at the dinner table for the one who has died and having a special toast during your meal in their honour

🪨 Going out into the natural world, choosing a stone or piece of wood that reminds you of a connection with your person and releasing it into a body of water

🕊️ Being involved in the final cleansing and dressing ritual of the one who has died.

When you set your intention, the rest will come, and it doesn't have to be overdone to be meaningful.

Wondering how you can make a memorial more eco-friendly?

-Use a memorial marker made from local rather than imported stone
-Opt for an eco-friendly casket
-Opt for burial without a grave or casket liner, if the cemetery allows it
-Place local, in-season cut flowers on the grave, or, if the cemetery allows it, a potted plant
