A N G E R & R E S E N T M E N T
Do you harbour some unexpressed anger or resentment toward someone or something that happened to you in the past?
Does your body feel tense, fatigued, and fragile?
If so, I want you to know that there is NOTHING wrong with you, and you are not BAD for feeling these things.
Anger is one of our CORE emotions, but it is one we have stigmatized and been conditioned not to express because it is seen to be ‘unpleasant’, ‘dangerous’ or ‘aggressive’. What is truly unpleasant is how much energy gets consumed in the attempt to suppress these natural feelings. When we divert our energy toward burying an emotion, we are also taking energy away from our creativity, and our ability to be present in our lives.
We are often suppressing these feelings subconsciously because we learned as a child that it wasn’t safe to express anger, either because it would lead to punishment, or in a child’s eyes, the revoking of love. This happens because our parents or guardians likely didn’t know how to deal with our anger because they too internalized anger to be evil, bad, and harmful.
Learning how to feel these emotions can be scary for our bodies, and may even feel totally unsafe. However, when we open ourselves up to experiencing anger, we are offered a way of expressing, and moving through this pain. We may even end up in a place of forgiveness!
