: August wasn’t always the eighth month of the year.

In the old Roman calendar, August was called Sextilis, meaning “sixth” in Latin, because the year originally had just ten months! It wasn’t until around 700 BC, when January and February were added to the calendar, that August shifted into its now-familiar eighth spot.

A little bit of history, language, and calendar chaos. 😀

🌀 What Is Vertigo? | Echo Hearing Care

Vertigo is the feeling that you or your surroundings are spinning, even when you're standing still. It often comes from problems in the inner ear, which helps control your balance.

Some common causes include:
🔹 BPPV (Benign Positional Vertigo) – brief spinning when you move your head a certain way
🔹 Inner Ear Infections – often caused by a virus and can affect your balance
🔹 Ménière’s Disease – a buildup of fluid in the inner ear, often with ringing and hearing loss
🔹 Vestibular Migraine – a type of migraine that can cause vertigo, even without a headache

Because your hearing and balance are closely connected, our clinic offers full assessments to help identify the cause of your vertigo—and find the right care path forward.

✨ If you're experiencing persistent dizziness or balance issues, you're not alone—and you don't have to live with it.

New to hearing aids? Here’s why daily use matters — from a clinical perspective.

When you first start using hearing aids, it’s not just your ears that need to adjust — it’s your brain.

👂 Hearing loss reduces stimulation to the auditory cortex over time, a process called auditory deprivation. This can make speech sound unclear and increase listening fatigue. Hearing aids restore access to sound, but the brain needs time to relearn how to process it.

This adaptation process is called auditory acclimatization — and it happens best with consistent, daily use of your devices.

🔍 Wearing your hearing aids every day helps:

Rebuild auditory processing pathways in the brain

Improve speech clarity, especially in noisy environments

Reduce mental effort and listening fatigue

Support better long-term cognitive and communication outcomes

💡 Clinical tip: Begin by wearing your hearing aids in quiet, familiar environments, then gradually introduce more complex listening situations. This progression allows your brain to adjust without becoming overwhelmed.

🎯 Bottom line: The more consistently you wear your hearing aids, the more natural and effective they’ll become. Early commitment leads to stronger long-term results — both for your hearing and your overall cognitive health.

👂 How Sinus Pressure Affects Your Ears

When you have a cold, allergies, or a sinus infection, the pressure in your sinuses can affect your ears too. This happens because your ears and sinuses are connected by the Eustachian tube—a small passage that helps balance ear pressure.

When the sinuses are inflamed or congested, the Eustachian tube can become blocked. This may cause:

A feeling of fullness in your ears
Muffled hearing
Popping or crackling sounds
Mild dizziness or imbalance

In most cases, these symptoms improve as your sinuses begin to clear. However, if the discomfort lingers or worsens, it could be a sign of fluid buildup or another underlying issue that may need medical attention.

🎧 Your ears and sinuses are part of the same system—when one is under pressure, the other often feels it too. Paying attention to both can help you protect your hearing and overall comfort.

👂💚 Eat Well, Hear Well! 🥬🥑
Nutrition plays a vital role in maintaining inner ear function — an important part of our comprehensive approach at Echo Hearing Care.

Here are a few hearing-friendly nutrients to consider adding to your diet:

🥬 Folate (Spinach, lentils) – Helps with circulation and protects inner ear hair cells
🐟 Omega-3s (Salmon, flaxseed) – Linked to a lower risk of age-related hearing loss
🍌 Magnesium (Bananas, almonds) – May help protect against damage from loud noise
🧄 Zinc & Antioxidants (Garlic, citrus fruits) – Support immune health to help prevent ear infections

Even small nutritional adjustments can contribute to better long-term ear health.

🔬 Nutrition is just one piece of the hearing health puzzle. Regular hearing evaluations are an important part of preventive care — especially as we age or if we’re exposed to loud environments.

If you have concerns about your hearing, our clinic is here to help with evidence-based assessments and personalized support.
