It’s well known that parenting can be EXHAUSTING. Of course there are often many heartwarming moments but it can also be draining and overwhelming. Worries and doubts about being a good enough parent only make it tougher.

That’s why it’s so important for new parents to support each other with these kind of compliments, it will mean a lot! Moms can be especially vulnerable to self-criticism but it’s a wonderful thing for any parent to hear.

In other words, be your partner’s cheerleader, praise their ability to parent, and do this often!

Why does this help? Rather than focus on blaming (which may leave kids feeling defensive) this approach focuses on taking action. Describing what you see allows kids to recognize what the problem is and deal with it.
