“I was 20, studying science at UBC and working as a teaching assistant, while also performing as a pianist and accompanist. In May 2017, a severe headache landed me in the ER, where I learned I had a malignant brain tumour called pineal germinoma.

The following six months were filled with intense treatment and uncertainty. I underwent a biopsy and hydrocephalus surgery, followed by 12 rounds of chemotherapy and 20 sessions of radiation therapy—testing me in ways I had never imagined.

I first learned about InspireHealth through my family doctor and immediately felt welcomed. I attended one-on-one sessions with physicians, dietitians, and exercise therapists who created personalized programs for my diet and exercise, while group classes like yoga, cooking, and art helped me express myself and maintain emotional balance.

The LIFE Program further connected me with other patients, allowing us to share experiences, learn about the latest cancer research, and explore ways to live life to the fullest despite our diagnoses.

InspireHealth has been an invaluable part of my cancer journey and I am forever grateful."

Thank you to our volunteers who show up each month to support our LIFE Programs and prepare delicious, nourishing, thoughtfully made meals. The care and time shared make a true difference.

Upcoming LIFE Program dates are now open for registration:

🗓️ Vancouver: January 19–20

Led by InspireHealth’s dedicated team of supportive care clinicians, the signature two-day LIFE Program offers essential tools and knowledge to support people affected by cancer, along with those who care for them.

Topics include stress reduction and self-care, sleep management, nutrition, exercise and movement, and cancer education. The program runs from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm both days, with lunch and snacks provided. Spaces are limited.

The holidays can be especially challenging for people facing cancer, as well as their loved ones. Fatigue, isolation, and uncertainty often make this season harder than expected.

In a recent CTV News feature, Loveena Chera-Tsaparas, InspireHealth CEO, shared how our free programs provide essential support and connection when it’s needed most. InspireHealth provides free programs that support physical and emotional well-being, all in one place. Offerings range from mindfulness, movement and yoga classes to art therapy, nutrition and cancer education, with one-on-one personalized support also available with our supportive care physicians, counsellors, dietitians, and exercise therapists, tailored to each person’s needs and goals.

We also support loved ones, helping them navigate the emotional challenges of caring for someone with cancer. Behind every program is a passionate team dedicated to compassionate, empathetic support during the holidays and throughout the year.
