👋 Meet Al, our new physiotherapist!
I’ve been running since I was in highschool and it has always been something that I’ve enjoyed. I grew up in Tsawwassen and I would often run the whole circumference of the town as practice. In 2014, I decided to run the BMO marathon for the first time. To train, I would run between Tsawwassen and the neighbouring town of Ladner and back, once a week for several months. I finished the race in so much pain that I vowed to never do a marathon again. And I didn’t until I went to school as a physiotherapist and met the many wonderful people who inspired me to pick it up again but in a slightly different way.
I started trail running the beautiful trails of BC and have participated in a couple of ultramarathons over the last 3 years. I got to see this province in a way I had never experienced before: I explored the local mountains, Whistler and Squamish much more intentionally. I love the feeling of travelling an incredible distance on only my two legs, getting to the top of a mountain and seeing the view of the mountains or ocean sprawling in front of me, running through the forest and feeling more connected with nature. Trail running makes me feel like a kid again, running as fast as I can just for the sake of it. It resets me after a long day and it gives me time to meditate.
After 11 years, I decided to challenge the BMO marathon again but this time had an entirely different experience: the energy of both the athletes and the crowd cheering them on is contagious! It was an amazing feeling and inspiring to run this ridiculous distance among thousands of people who are challenging themselves simply for their enjoyment and to try and better themselves in some way, just like me.
