Real, organic, whole, slow foods, homemade with love always nourish us - no matter what we’ve been told to believe 💛

Pasta, burgers, pizza, [insert your fave food] aren’t what’s making us sick - it’s the highly processed nature in which they are often made, with poor quality ingredients loaded with pesticides and additives, and the guilt we’ve been told to carry around eating them - that are ❤️‍🩹

Here’s how I ensure my pasta nourishes on a body, mind, soul, level:

🥬 salad first to support blood sugar balance and to get in enough fibre rich veg

🍝 quality organic noodles: I love hand making mine with organic flour, but there are so many great healthy options out there instead

🍅 a handmade tomato sauce with pasture raised meat for protein. Loaded with antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, and goodness for the bran

✨ a moment of gratitude: remembering what a gift it is to nourish our body with real whole foods 🥰

💛 mindful eating: chewing our food well, sitting down with good posture, eating undistracted or around a table with ppl we love / who make us feel safe and seen

4 gut friendly kitchen swaps I make as a chef (who is also a nutritionist) 👩‍🍳🫜✨:

1) I swap canola, sunflower or corn oil for avocado or olive oil. Highly refined (often gmo) oils are inflammatory to the gut and brain.

2) I skip the deep fryers and pan fry (in avocado oil) or oven bake instead. Deep frying is one of the least gut friendly ways to cook anything!

3) I opt (and am willing to pay more) for organic ingredients. Pesticides are inflammatory to the gut and negatively impact our gut microbiomes (not to mention soil health and pollinators as well).

4) I always swap out excess refined grains and add in MORE veg to recipes in order to help increase gut diversity (our guts love plant diversity!)

Little swaps = big benefits for our sweet gut bacteria 🦠💛✨
