09/30/2025
September 30 is a day to honour the children who never came home, the survivors of residential “schools,” their families, and their communities. It is a day of remembrance — and a call to ensure Indigenous patients and families feel safe, seen, and supported in our care. 🧡
At Providence Health Care, one of the most powerful ways we do this is by supporting Indigenous patient self-identification. When patients feel safe to share who they are, it opens the door to culturally safe, identity-affirming care.
📈 We know this makes a difference: when Indigenous Wellness Liaisons are present in care areas, visibility grows — and so does trust. More Indigenous patients are choosing to self-identify, helping ensure they receive the cultural and spiritual supports that are their human right.
Hear directly from Harmony Johnson, sɛƛakəs, Vice-President, Indigenous Wellness and Reconciliation, as she shares what this day means and how we are creating safer spaces for Indigenous patients and families.
