The transition to the Health Professions and Occupations Act on April 1, 2026 will bring major changes to regulation in British Columbia. BCND has been actively engaged in this process to ensure naturopathic doctors have a strong voice.

Our focus is on shaping how the new framework is applied, protecting the integrity of the profession, and ensuring NDs remain leaders in BC’s evolving healthcare system.

For context, you can view BCND’s earlier submissions on past bylaw consultations here: https://www.bcnd.ca/health-professions-and-occupations-act-hpoa/

The final sections of the bylaws are expected soon, and BCND will continue to represent the profession’s interests.

As regulated health professionals, NDs combine evidence informed medicine with a whole person approach, supporting patients through prevention, treatment, and long-term health.

From chronic disease management to everyday wellness, NDs are an important part of the healthcare system in British Columbia.

As the healthcare system continues to face challenges, this message remains timely. NDs are regulated primary care providers working across the province to meet patient needs with comprehensive, compassionate care.

The BCNA is the professional association for naturopathic physicians in BC.

At the BCNA, we make a meaningful difference in improving health care for British Columbians by working alongside our members to achieve quality patient care through engagement, collaboration, and naturopathic physician leadership.

Our goal is to promote a social, economic, and political climate in which members can provide the citizens of British Columbia with the highest standard of naturopathic health care, while achieving maximum professional satisfaction and fair primary care options.

With the help of our president and board, we help make sure the voices of naturopathic doctors are heard by government, health authorities, media, and the public. We pride ourselves on continuing to advocate for a fair health care system for all residents of British Columbia.

We are linked to the national naturopathic association, the Canadian Association of Naturopathic Doctors. We support the annual national proactive health event, Naturopathic Medicine Week, during the first week of May.
