It was another fun day for Boss Dog Stanley yesterday. He expertly showed the Pet First Aid ropes to the kids at BC SPCA Tri-Cities summer camp! 👨‍🏫⛑️🐶

As usual, the kids were superstars and he was even given a sweet handmade card from one of them!

It’s never to young to learn about pet safety, injury prevention, and introduction to a pet first aid kit & skills. Go kids!

Some parts of our job are a ton of fun. Volunteering at local summer kids camps is definitely one of them.

Thank you BC SPCA (BCSPCA) Maple Ridge for inviting us to teach Pet First Aid to the kid campers. Boss Dog Stanley especially enjoyed the pets and cookies. 🙂

Side note: kids are incredibly competent and capable. We implore everyone to teach them where the first aid kit is in your home.

Unfortunately, fish hooks are always tempting for our pets since they smell edible. Prevention is the best form of pet first aid. Anytime you are near water with your pets, do a bit of sleuthing for hazards. And of course, effort to store your own gear so that it's not accessible to your pets.

It's mistaken to say that there is no threat of rabies in Canada. While it's not high in most places, it's still here. Please keep your pets vaccinated and follow the advice in this post.

A bat located in the City of Woodstock has tested positive for rabies. An individual who was exposed to the bat is receiving rabies post-exposure prophylaxis which will prevent them from contracting the virus.

A reminder to protect against rabies by:

➡️Vaccinating your pet against the rabies virus.
➡️Ensuring your pet’s vaccinations are up-to-date.
➡️Keeping pets indoors at night.
➡️Touching base with your vet if you see any potential wounds on your pet from a fight with wild animals.
➡️Teaching children to stay away from wild animals and strange dogs and cats.
➡️Always asking permission before trying to pet an animal.
➡️Supervising children around animals.
➡️Not attempting to touch or feed wild animals.
➡️Not touching sick animals.
➡️Not approaching animals behaving oddly or aggressively, and
➡️Being familiar with the signs of rabies in your pets and wild animals.
