There is a high rate of su***de in the veterinary industry, and it's an important topic to both be aware of and to share resources for.

During ***dePreventionAwarenessWeek, we invite you to read through a recently published resource guide, developed by the AVMA and partner organizations, that provides strategies and practical actions that veterinary professionals can take to help prevent su***de.

The Su***de Prevention Resource Guide for Veterinary Settings provides information about su***de risk and protective factors, warning signs, and what organizations and individuals can do to help prevent su***de. It reflects learnings from su***de research and the implementation of evidence-based su***de prevention and response strategies in a variety of academic and workplace settings: http://bit.ly/4mZxRXH

A few small changes to how we do things can literally be life saving.

A few small changes to how we do things can literally be life saving.

🦌 Did you know our trash is a serious problem for our pets and wildlife?

Not only can food bags and containers travel into yards, beaches, forests, and more, putting dogs, cats, bears, deer, foxes, squirrels, birds, raccoons, and other animals at risk, but wildlife and fish can also get tangled in, caught in, and suffocate in all types of trash - just like this Border Collie named Dallas whose head got stuck in a plastic Cheese Ball container in late August.

Dallas was seen wandering in a cornfield with a Cheese Ball container stuck on her head. It took two days and a wonderful community search effort including two drone pilots and Canine Rescue of Central PA for Dallas to be rescued. The pup was immediately taken to an emergency vet and treated for dehydration and ticks. Luckily, Dallas is thriving and is now safe in a foster home recovering. As an added bonus, Hanover Foods, the manufacturer of the Cheese Ball container, stepped in to cover her medical bills.

Not every story of injured domestic pets or wildlife ends so well.

So, what can you do?

✔️ Cut up your food bags before you dispose of them ⁣

✔️ Never leave trash outside, no matter where you are ⁣

✔️ Pack any food you take outside of the home in plastic containers rather than plastic bags⁣

✔️ Cut up all string, rope, netting, fishing line, and plastic drink holders before disposing of them

✔️ Crush all drink cans and food cans

✔️ Screw lids tightly on jars and containers

✔️ If you see an animal, bird, fish, or pet in distress, please try to help them or call for help

Little changes can save the lives of many animals! ❤️

Spreading the word of this newly identified pet toxin. We appreciate all of the hard work that Pet Poison Helpline puts in to keep pets safe.

Veterinary toxicologists from Pet Poison Helpline have identified a serious new hazard found in popular migraine/headache cooling head masks and similar products!

Pets are at risk if they ingest the contents of these products which can lead to serious neurologic signs and in some cases, death.

If you have similar products in your home, be sure they are always stored safely out of your pet’s reach. Promptly discard any damaged or leaking items. Should an exposure occur, contact Pet Poison Helpline right away. We are here 24/7 to provide guidance and support.

Our team of veterinary toxicologists will be presenting new research at the upcoming North American Congress of Clinical Toxicology (NACCT) meeting in Chicago: Unmasking the Truth about Acrylamide: Chilling Findings from Pet Poison Helpline.

Did you know that one of the things that's unique about WNW is that we have at least one live pet in each of our in-class courses?

Of course, the pets make the classes more fun! But they also allow us to gently demonstrate some of the assessment skills, as well as bandaging on a wiggly model and more.

Thanks for making Walks 'N' Wags your first choice for Pet First Aid training! 🐶🐱

As a Canadian owned company, we try to support our fellow Canadians in our business practices. 🇨🇦

That's why our manuals are printed here in Canada, on Canadian-made paper. Could we manufacture them for less elsewhere? Probably. But we feel good about this decision and we hope that you do too.

Thank you for choosing Walks 'N' Wags for your Pet First Aid certification. We appreciate your support of our Canadian business.
