There is no research that indicates talking to someone about su***de, in the context of care, respect, and prevention, increases their risk of suicidal ideation or suicidal behaviours.

Research DOES indicate that talking openly and responsibly about su***de lets someone know they do not have to be alone, that there are people who want to listen and who want to help.

Most people are relieved to finally be able to talk honestly about their feelings, and this alone can reduce the risk of an attempt.

If you or someone you know needs support, reach out to us:

We're asking you to join us at 4:00AM on May 9th. We know - it's very early. But there's a reason why we gather before sunrise.

Vancouver's 12th annual Darkness Into Light walk will raise funds to support the Crisis Centre's su***de prevention program. But it's also an opportunity to show up in community - to come together - to honour those we have lost, support those who may be struggling, and stand up for our shared belief: that no one should face crisis alone.

When: May 9th, 2026 - gather at 4:00am, start walking at 4:15am
Where: Burnaby Lake

Register here: https://eventmaster.ie/event/rYyqFPmS9y

We can't wait to walk with you 💛
